 Golden Wings for FlightSimulator Fs2004.

Golden Wings 3 will regress to the extent possible at the moment, a copy of fs2004 to the golden age of aviation, the period from 1920 to 1940. It will remove some large modern airports and alter the appearance of the remaining one to look more like they would have looked in the Golden Age. Modern traffic is replaced with vintage aircraft with no more worries of running into a 737 while flying your favorite Dc3 cross country! It is and will always continue to be a "work in process" as we and other interested simmers share golden age sceneries, revised AFCAD files and city altering exclude files to further enhance the golden age flying experience.  Many thanks to Justin Tyme for his generous contribution of US Landclass to the project!  Check out his great products at FSGenesis.net! We use his mesh exclusively in Golden Wings! Also many thanks to Marcel Aerni for permission to use his beautiful desert texture in Golden Wings! Other textures included are all original or modified MS textures

WARNING!  Golden Wings is a work in process! It is not complete and never will be with all the thousands of airports in Fs2004! We have given you a start and a place to fly. We hope that many people who love the golden age will step up to the plate and using easily available freeware programs make revised AFCAD files and sceneries that further make GW a fun place to fly. If your local airport still looks to modern fix it and share it with others! We plan a monthly GW update which will include any AFCAD files sent to us!

INSTALLATION:

To create your Golden Wings 3 follow the instructions below.
Installation basically consists of creating a new fs2004 installation which we will call FsGW3, deleting un-needed files and applying the FSGW3 installation file. The process should take less than an hour to complete! This can be accomplished in either of two ways. You can choose either method depending on your HD size and the amount of addons you have accumulated.

METHOD A.

If you have a small fs2004 installation which is relatively stock you can make a copy of your current installation following the steps below:

STEP1. To make a working copy of your current installation use the included GW31.jpg as a visual guide. First highlight your current fs2004 folder. Now holding down the CTRL key drag the fs2004 folder to the C: drive or wherever you want your FSGW3 installation to be.

STEP2. It might take up to half an hour to copy depending on the size of your installation.

STEP3. Rename your copy to FSGW3

STEP4. Right click on the fs9.exe file within your new FSGW3 folder. Send to the desktop creating a new shortcut to FSGW3

STEP5. You MUST now open your new FSGW3 and delete certain files and folders!
DELETE from main Texture folder:
taxiway_detail.bmp

DELETE from your aircraft folder:
b737_400
b747_400
b777_300
beech_baron_58
beech_king_air_350

mooney_bravo
pa28_180
Robinson_R22
schweizr
AND delete all other modern aircraft that you have in your aircraft folder!

You can now move all your vintage aircraft from your modern fs2004 folder to the FSGW3 Aircraft folder!

You can save some file space by deleting the "Lessons" folder from FSGW3 and lessons sound folder from Sounds.

STEP6: Install the GW3Install.exe. If you have FSGW3 in a different location than C:/FSGW3 please brouse to your location in the installation process. GW3Install.exe will overwrite modern scenery and textures and install the new vintage AI aircraft and traffic.

STEP 7:

    A. Rename the FS9.exe in the GW folder to FSGW.exe. Send a new shortcut to the desktop from fsgw.exe. Right Click on                   FSGW.exe desktop icon. Under Properties change the icon to the gw.icon provided.
     B. Find the fs9.cfg file in your Documents and Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/Fs9 folder.
    C. Drag a copy of the fs9.cfg file to the Macromedia folder.
    D. Rename the copy to fsgw.cfg and drag it back to the fs9 folder.

STEP8: Boot up FSGW3 and take a flight in your favorite golden age aircraft!  You may never go back!!

METHOD B.
If you have a large fs2004 installation with many addons then it is best to create your FsGW3 installation from a fresh CD installation! Follow the steps below:

Step1. Using windows explorer rename your current fs2004 installation to something like fs2004BACK.

Step2. Now using the fs2004 CDs reinstall Fs2004. Use a full installation (2.9 gigs). It will be cut back later.

Step3. Rename your new installation to FSGW3 and rename your Fs2004BACK installation to whatever it was before.
