Problem with RFN ship the Georges Leygues using aicarriers

PhantomP

Charter Member
I downloaded all the ships,and aircraft carriers from the RFN site,but I am having a problem with only one using Aicarriers,and that's the George's Leygues http://royalefrenchnavy.perso.sfr.fr/RFN-Navires.htm For some reason it won't show up in aicarriers,I was wondering if anybody else had this problem? too, so I can let the author know,so he could Fix it in the future.Thanks

No sorry, not having such problem.
All ships made by RFN show up normal.
Is the ship in your simobjects/boats directory? Have you checked your AI carrier config file?

Hank

Yes,I carefully looked over the configs,and I see no errors,and thanks for the reply,yes all I did was take the aicairriers config they gave me,and numbered the formations 0 thru 7.

Just had a thought,should boat traffic be set to 100%?I only have it set to 50%,on both ferrys and leisure boats.

Phantom.. the traffic setting has no effect on AICarriers.

I use this particular model as part of a NATO fleet I have so I know it works. Post your cfg so we can have a look;)

Yo Phantom:wavey:

I just added the George Leygues class ship as an entry on it's own so I could see it and my AICarriers didn't show. I've no idea why??? I backed up a copy of my conf.d and other current files to my AICarriers directory then decided to use the uninstall that comes with it. It deleted the directory and along with it.. my 60+ formations. Oh the humanities:banghead:

Right.. looking at your formations.. they look fine. I'm a bit concerned by the numbering convention though. AICarriers conf.d normally comes with a selection of formations 'out of the box' as it were and if you added the formations to it.. you'd need to renumber them so the numbers run consecutively. However.. if you don't have any other files in your conf.d.. then this should be ok. I'll try it now to see what happens as my fresh install (I've gone for the .NET version now.. I HATE Java!!!) has no entries. I'll probably not have all the ships you have so the odd error may come up but those ships I DO have should show;)

Thanks DaveB,and yes I am using net aicairrers too,let me know if I can do anything to help you,I appreciate your helping me.The only group of ships I am having problems with are the ones that come with the George Leygues addon.

I have a bunch of different configs in the conf.d,but there they are all formations from 0 to whatever,so are you saying you can only have one config file in conf.d for all your ships?,and if you don't do the ships formation numbers have to keep counting up regardless of how many seperate configs you have?

OK Phantom:wavey:

Looking at your formations again.. I see a problem with (,).. commas. There shouldn't be a comma at the end of the line.

For example, here is the first formation..
[formation.0]
title=Full Georges Leygues class
unit.0=D640 Georges Leygues, 0, 0,
unit.1=D641 Dupleix, 150, -300,
unit.2=D642 Montcalm, -150, -300,
unit.3=D643 Jean de Vienne, 0, -600,
unit.4=D644 Primauguet, 300, -900,
unit.5=D645 La Motte Piquet, -300, -900,
unit.6=D646 Latouche Treville, 0, -1200,

You have a comma at the end of each line that shouldn't be there as far as I can remember (note.. I don't have any of my own formations now..grrrr) No.. I've found an old formation I posted at Flying Stations and it looks like this..

[formation.X]
title=RN fleet
unit.0=Victorious_1966, -400, 400
unit.1=HMS Fearless, 400, 400
unit.2=HMS Glamorgan, 0, 800
unit.3=Leander, 1200, 0
unit.4=Falmouth, 0, 0
unit.5=RFA Green Rover, -1200, 0
unit.6=Penelope, 400, -400
unit.7=VEH_water_tanker03_sm, -400, -400

Note.. no comma at the end of the line.

I also notice that the end value on your single ship formations is 54. Single ship's will always be 0, 0 so 0, 54 will not work. In my sample formation.. Falmouth is the centre of the group.. 0, 0 .. all the other ships are in formation around Falmouth. Glamorgan is directly in front of Falmouth but 800 yards (metres) ahead. So.. the first figure (in the group) refers to the line Falmouth is on or a deviation from it. If I remember right.. a minus figure as the first number is LEFT of the main ship.. a positive number is to the RIGHT of the main ship. The second number is either IN FRONT of the main ship (a positive number) or BEHIND the main ship if it is a MINUS number.
Here's a picture that will explain the numbers better..
group1.jpg

Even if the smaller ships are non-descript in that shot.. you can see Victorious and Fearless to the right of that. Behind and inbetween Victorious and Fearless is Falmouth. Directly ahead.. at the head of the group.. is Glamorgan e t c. It takes a bit of fiddling with but you'll get used to it.
Now.. to make all my formations again!!

Thanks DaveB,your advice worked,all ships are accounted for,and I am one happy Lad.:triumphant:BTW where did you get that beautiful Helo?

I'm chuffed to bits Phantom:jump: Believe it or not.. the main reason I slipped from FS9 into FSX is because of how good the sea looks and how good ship traffic works. The outstanding work Henrik has done with his AI ship packages just brings the whole thing to life:applause:

The Wessex is Brian Franklin's (Simshed) FS9 model which works with the usual problems in FSX. I served on HMS Norfolk (D21) .. like Glamorgan in that shot.. and I couldn't resist doing a repaint. I should do one for Glamorgan I suppose:biggrin-new:

Here's a link to the FS9 models.. http://www.simshed.co.uk/

BTW.. if you don't have them, get the superb French Suffren class ships (Suffren and Duquesne). They should be available at RFN and they're my favourite French Navy ships outside Clemenceau and Foch.

Thanks DaveB,I am going to download Henriks AI ships this week,along with Flying stations ships,and carriers,I can't wait,I already have all the RFN ships installed,but I am going to put the Wessex on my list,thanks again for all your help.

OK DaveB,I have one more problem,just noticed that There are some RFN ships that have there TAC below 20,like for instance 17x,or Y,but I can never tune in below 20 with the RFN gauge,did you ever run into this problem?Thanks,BTW do all this extra ships besides the Victorious available for download?

Hiya Phantom:wavey:

I'll take a look at the TACAN settings below 20 on my WinXP pc this afternoon. Almost all of the ships I use RFN4.2 for are the UK carriers and these have high numbers.

All of the ships in that shot are available (freeware) except the lead ship.. HMS Glamorgan which Rick Piper was in the process of making but never finished. There are alternative County Class DLG's available by Mike Hudson (as well as an assortment of frigates) but these are really only good enough to make up the numbers and don't need close scrutiny. They're very low-poly so 'smoothing groups' doesn't work which leaves you with multi-grey coloured ships at certain angles. They're fine in the sun but horrible in the shade. All the frigates in the screenshot can be got from Flying Stations along with Victorious in various years. The RFA nearest the Wessex is from a file called FSX_MODERN_ROYAL_NAVY_CVF_MW_expansion.zip and can be got at Simviation and Flightsim.com (I think). The older tanker is an FSX default. HMS Fearless can be downloaded from the CBFS library (www.cbfsim.co.uk) and is by Dave Garwood;) I think Fearless is at RFN too.

EDIT: OK.. I've taken a look at sub-20 Tacan selection and it IS a bit fiddly. You have 2 channel dials.. the 10's on the left and the single digits on the right. On the left hand control.. moving the mouse to the left will display - and moving the mouse to the right displays +. Move the mouse to the + side (close to the X/Y) and click there. The 10 number should move down to 1;)

BTW Phantom.. I've found out today what destroyed my AICarriers install.. update B5570 for ActiveSkyNext:banghead: HiFi have released another update today (B5575) which 'addresses rare occasions' where 5570 stopped addon programs working. Rare??? It was obviously frequent enough for them to put out a patch:(

Hey DaveB,ok I am getting the hang of the RFN gauge finally,thanks to your help,and I am looking into buying either the active sky,or REX,I still use active sky for my fs9 set up,and was always pleased with it's results.Im glad you figured out what erased you aicarrier formations,this weekend I will make an attempt at installing Henriks AI ship routes,It looks to be very impressive.

Glad RFN is working for you. That last move from 2X to 1X wouldn't work for me the first time I tried this morning but I knew there couldn't be a REAL problem with it as 17 is FOCH and the RFN guys wouldn't have left it broken:biggrin-new:

I know you'll be pleased with Henrik's AI Ship packages. Check out his thread here where he describes which order you install them in and you'll be 'good to go' anywhere in the world:encouragement:
