Avro Tutor Compass in P3D v4.5

I recently installed Nigel's amazing FSX version of the Tutor into P3D V4.5 and it looks great and hand flies really well. I wanted to add a pop-up AP/radio panel and a GPS and hit all sorts of issues but I eventually got everything to play nicely together after several hours of hair pulling! The only issues I have now is with the P8 compass pop-up gauge which is acting very oddly and I haven't been able to fix it so I was wondering if anyone else had seen the same issue or if they they knew of a fix.

If you just set your desired heading on the outer compass ring to the 12 o'clock position and then manually turn the aircraft until the needle aligns with the lubber lines on the glass you are actually heading in the chosen direction as confirmed by the read-out on the Shift+Z info line. However, if you put the aircraft into AP heading hold and dial in a heading on the AP display the pop-up P8 compass does not follow the changes at the same rate and when the aircraft is finally heading in the correct direction as shown on the AP heading display and with Shift+Z the pop-up compass card is showing an incorrect heading value which is off by a considerable amount! If you now turn the pop-up compass ring to the heading on the AP display the AP display changes too and the aircraft flies on some arbitrary heading somewhere between the two values. It is really weird behavior that doesn't make sense to me. Obviously there is miss-communication somewhere between the AP code and the compass code but what and where I have not been unable to figure out.

Any ideas?

After a bit of back and forth over at the FSDeveloper forums I now have a fully working P8 compass in Nigel's Avro Tutor! :) (y)

I've packed it up as a CAB file which can be used for all vintage aircraft if you have a bit of knowledge on how to add gauges to panel.cfg files or have a copy of FS Panel Studio so if you want to replace yours in the Tutor or want to add it to any of your vintage aircraft let me know and I will make it available.

I'm interested in your compass to update my Tutors too.

Hi Larry, Sounds really good and I'm interested in getting your file. Please send to 'email address removed for security reasons' when you are able.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Hi folks, the file is small enough to add here (with a bit of luck) so you should be able to save the attachment included in this post. Let me know if there are any issues.

NOTE: This only fixes the faulty compass code it does not address the lack of any functional Autopilot code in the Tutor's aircraft.cfg file. I will add that info in another post as you will need it if you want to fly with an Autopilot of your choice in another pop-up panel (or I can make up a panel using the default Bendix-King radios).

Here is the fix to the Tutor's aircraft.cfg file so that you can use an autopilot (the original code had the autopilot disabled) and also a change to the panel.cfg file to add an autopilot pop-up panel.

Enjoy! (y)
