There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

And....if you can sign on to flightsim.com, like I just did, you will find a message from management stating that Dec. 1 the site will be taken down for several
months for them to revamp.striking a death knell?
Just as I predicted. Which is why those anonymous new owners hated me so. I was banned ....from what? Flightsim.com no longer exists. RIP.

Here is actually what happened. There is a programming language called Rust (stupid name in my book). It's new and being pushed into production for no good reason. It's replacing old Linux based code that works well and is stable. Rust is problematic as was just experienced.

Just a heads up from today and yesterday.
I've been "backing up" some downloads as quickly as possible over the last two days or so. It's one of those, "when I've had a chance to 'bing-backup'" type of things.
I've run into a "maximum allowed number of downloads" issue since yesterday.
Seems they're "throttling" what you can get.
It says you can only download 50 files in a certain period of time, so I can try again tomorrow just after lunchtime. Not sure if it's 12 hours or 9 hours or what, but I wasn't able to start again until just after 10AM today. Now I have to wait until just after lunch tomorrow to continue.
Thought I would let you all know since I'm trying to backup the CalClassic stuff from their website as well as some of the more "unique" files you can/could only get from Flightsim.
Not too many files are mirrored on Avsim, and I'm not too confident on the whole "archive" thing Flightsim keeps pressing.
Whatever work I finish going forward I'll just upload here since this place seems to know what it's doing.

Just a 'head's up' for you Jorge.........
If they are other people's files and not your own personal creations you MUST get permission to upload them to the SOH library from the original creators! We don't need to get into all sorts of legal accusations and law suits because we are/were hosting files without permission. If you have permission uploading here is fine, without the necessary permission DON'T DO IT!

Just want to make sure I have things backed up on my computer before things go sideways over there. I'm sure many people would like to do the same before the thing goes offline. There are a LOT of newer classic scenery files I didn't have since it's been a while since I've been over there.
Despite the fact you can get many of the addons here (vintage air bases, for example), the "core" files are hosted only over on Flightsim. The direct links will likely disappear when Flightsim goes offline since they probably won't have the same "links" when/if they come back in archive mode. I'm just making sure I have the most recent files that have been posted for the core installation.
Just letting folks here know there are limits now as to what/how much you can download in a certain amount of time over at Flightsim. I'm not sure if that was the case before or not.
My work is primarily on my Mediafire site (main Platinum Wings files), with only updated files and new files over here. My maps for the IAW routes, for example.
Believe me, the LAST thing we need is for crap to shut us down considering we're the last -- if not one of the last -- flightsim sites that's actually OPEN to pretty much all the older, more stable flightsim platforms -- and with consistant admins to boot!

Well, it seems that pretty much everyone who uploads to FlightSim also uploads to AvSim and SimV. You can usually find the new stuff on SimV right away and eventually on AvSim, though it might be a week or two before they update their file list. And if you're using the old sims like FS9, FSX and CFS2, pretty much everything that goes to FlightSim, AvSim and SimV also shows up right here along with a lot more that doesn't go to the others.
All of my personal stuff (repaints, scenery files, etc.) and all of the LDR stuff has only ever been uploaded here! I make them for myself and release them to forum members to enjoy, that's it!
