Skyraider Delayed

Well, he also doesn't know the difference between a barrel roll and an aileron roll, so his stuff is more "sit back and watch the pretty pictures." ;-)

(Also, per Steve's video, how in the nine levels of Hades can you be an aviation enthusiast and never have heard of the Skyraider? Get off my damn lawn, Steve!)
I agree completely. The "you can hang bombs on those" killed it for me personally.

My first intro to Naval Aviation as an 18-year-old. I got to stand by with a fire bottle as the instructor started one of those giants at NATTC Memphis back in '62. The big prop, the fire, and the noise "impressed" me so much that I immediately headed off to the rotary wing side of things.

I was just over at Miltech's Discord, and they confirmed there is no A-1E variant included. Glad to see they spent inordinate amounts of time on the few British variants that existed....as I said in jest (but they thought I was serious) "At least you did several British variants....bet those will be REAL popular..." Completely shaking my head...over their decision to not do an A-1E, but a limited run variant that is really just a minor footnote in the plane's history. Typical. So I was looking forward to this....now I need to wait and see if the A-1H is worth the price of the product.

I mean (full disclosure I’m British so not exactly unbiased) as far as I'm aware they’re doing an AD-4W (the RN used this variant, although by no means all of them) and AD-5W. Those account for nearly 400 aircraft between them, far more than the number of A-1Es built so it’s hardly a niche variant. So between those and the A-1H that’s covered nearly 1/3 of Skyraiders and between the air forces that used those variants there are still an awesome number of repaints.

Ah well..."It is what it is..." I guess people are attracted to what they are most aware of. I'll wait to see what the general impression is and make a purchase decision on that. A great A-1H with paintkit would make the price worth it, I think.

Likewise, when I think of the "Skyraider" from my time in Nam it was the A-1E. It's the variant I saw every morning while working on the Dragonfly and the one I watched taxi out every day laden with everything but the kitchen sink under it's wings. I'll look for any indication that an A-1E will materialize but I'm not holding my breath. . . . .I'll get what's available at some point just to have a Skyraider in my hangar.
