• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI (ITF) QM-T

Texture for Winjeel's Gmax Beaufighter Mk.VI (ITF) model - 08.05.04

Bristol Beaufighter Mk.VI 'QM-T', X8243 flown by 254 Squadron RAF Coastal Command.

During 1943 254 Squadron was part of the North Coates Strike Wing. 254 Squadron were equipped with the 'Interim Torpedo Fighter' version of the Mk.VI 'Beau'. They were the vanguard the strike wing's anti-ship attack hitting the German convoy shipping with their 'tinfish'. The North Coates Strike Wing was the first of the Coastal Command maritime strike wings set up after the pathetic response by the RAF to the Kriegsmarine's 'Operation Cerberus' the channel dash of the battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Set up in 1943 it was comprised of three squadrons equipped with Beaufighter Mk.VIs and operated against German shipping in the North Sea, often close to the Dutch coast.

This Beaufighter was armed with 4 x 20mm cannon, 2 x 250 lb bombs or 8 under wing rockets or 1 British standard marine torpedo (18 in) or 1 American naval torpedo (21 in). These were the 'Torbeaus'.

The skin is based on guesswork, the serial number is a guess. If you have more information on 254 Squadron Mk.VI Beaus from the 1943 period please contact me so it can be altered accordingly. They did use the code letters 'QM'. By 1944 they were equipped with the Beaufighter Mk.X.

Thanks to Martin Wright and his excellent DXTBMP program.
