• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Bristol Blenheim MkIV L4842 TE-K, No 53 Sqn RAF, Odiham, early 1939.

No.55 Squadron formed at Odiham in January 1939 as the first unit equipped with the Blenheim MkIV. This aircraft, flight tested at Filton on 29th May 1939, was issued to 53 Sqn, which was part of Army Cooperation Command, for use in the strategic reconnaissance role. The squadron was sent to France with the Air Component of the BEF, and fought in the Battle of France.

L4842 was lost in action on 17th May 1940 near Glisy after taking off from Poix and being attacked in error by an 85 Sqn Hurricane flown by Sgt Crozier. The crew, composed of Pilot Flt Lt B.B. St G Daly, Sgt W.R.B. Currie and AC2 P.J. Blandford escaped despite being severely burned.

By this date, 53 Sqn's code had changed to PZ, and L4842 was coded PZ-B.

The colour scheme represented here was worn briefly during the summer of 1939.
