The construction of the military airfield Valkenburg began on 17 April 1939. During the German invasion in May 1940 there was a fierce battle for control over the airport, even though it was not yet drained and was not yet operational.
The occupiers finished the construction of the airport and entered it into service as "Flugplatz Katwijk". Until 1943 Valkenburg was kept in use as an auxiliary base, then the Germans rendered the airport completely useless.
The scenery is also suitable for FS9.
