Finland signed an agreement with Germany on 1st February 1943 concerning the supply of Messerschmitt Bf109g fighters; the first consignment of g-2 aircraft arrived on 13th March 1943.
The No.1 Finnish fighter ace Eino Juutilainen (94 1/6 victories) shot down a Soviet Pe-2 over Gulf of Finland on 24th March 1943 flying this aircraft, making the first Finnish kill on Bf109. On 2nd June 1943 Adj. Oiva Emil Kalervo Tuominen had to force-land MT-212 in the Gulf of Finland after a dogfight in the air. It was dismantled in Harbina harbour after recovery from the sea. Tuominen ended the war with 44 victories, 8 of which were claimed during The Winter War.
