• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

The base files are Phil Crowthers FM2 Wildcat/CVE package, and the original Mark Fitch CVE. The Attacker-Ruler class lend-lease escort carriers comprised the largest class of aircraft carriers operated by the Royal Navy;some 30+ ships, and the Martlet covered itself in glory FAA service,a history that is almost ignored in the FS universe. This is a Gestalt entity project, the first historicaly accurate project undertaken by the spontaniously formed Retro Carriers project. Lots of research to try and produce repaints for the ships and aircraft that are as accurate as possible within the constraints of the model files available. The color schemes of the ships and aircraft were reproduced from photo evidence, admiralty camouflage drawings, Resinshipyards and Vallejo paint charts, IPMS and Squadron-signal publications. The work was done by hand with DXTBMP, W7MSPaint, Tmodel veiwer.

A generic second world war Frigate is included as an escort, converted from a scenery object by Mark Schimmer, with his permission.

Known Issues: Both of the CVE models are used as they both have different and interesting features, though the Mark Fitch original has masts, funnels, and some bits un-texture mapped and in a pale blue.
The FM2 model has some funny mapping on the bottom of the flaps that induces some limitations in texturing and painting things like stripes, and the elevators/stabs are mapped to the tops only, so top side colors on the bottom. There is some funny mapping right where the branch markings and serials were carried on RN cats, so those have to ride a bit lower on the fuselage.

The ships represented are HMS Trumpeter, HMS Searcher(SEA), HMS Puncher, HMS Attacker, the aircraft are from 1941-45, representing 802,846, 881 and 882 NAS Fleet Air Arm.

The files needed may be found on AVsim.com, search for 'Mark Fitch' 'Phil Crowther' and 'Escort carrier'. The escort carriers are for use with AIcarrier2 utility

Installation: Figure it out. Its self explanatory. If not, join a fs site, check the forums. I can write Nth-teen thousend lines of install notes and still get hundreds of grammatically deficiant e-mails for help, and I hate writing these things.

Legal stuff. Freeware, not to be uploaded to any site that levies a fee for access. These files may not be sold as a commercial product. These files should not do anything to your computer. No liability assumed. If you are down loading from the web with no anti virus; you are stupid as well as grammatically defective.

Published with permissions where a response came in. We tried. 10,000 pardons please; and our heartfelt thanks to Mr.Fitch, Mr.Crowther, and Mr.Schimmer for sharing these marvellous creations with the Flight Simulation community.

A highly recommended adjunct is the Flying Stations.com freeware FSX Fairey Swordfish. Excellent all the way round, as are all of their models.
