The livery represents a MiG 15 in the colors of the 3246th Test Wing of the US Air Force based in Kadena in Japan on the island of Okinawa.
In September 1953, two months after the end of the Korean War, a North Korean pilot defected and requested political asylum from the American authorities by landing at their Kimpo base in South Korea.
The plane was dismantled and shipped to the US base at Kadena in Japan. The aircraft was reassembled there and the North Korean nationality markings and registration 2057 were replaced with US Air Force markings.
The plane then underwent a series of tests in the hands of the American pilots, Captain H. E. Collins and Major Chuck Yeager.
