This texture represents the Tempest Mk N JN862 of Flt Lt R Van Lierde, No 3 Sqn, Newchurch, June 1944. 'Mony' Van Lierde followed a very successful tour on Typhoons with a posting to No 3 Sqn as a flight commander, flying Tempests. In the summer of 1944 he became the most successful pilot, by day, against V1 flying bombs, claiming 44 destroyed. Most of his claims were made while flying his personal aircraft, JN862.
