This repaint of the VB P-51B Mustang with the Malcom hood is intended to represent a Mustang of the 353rd FG, 8th AF. It was named LUCKY LEAKY II. This plane lost an engine and bellied in at Raydon in May 1945, and was destroyed. I have several books, mostly Squadron Signal publications, that show pictures of this plane. I thought it would be a great repaint, and took the challenge up. I'd say it came out well.
It is not entirely accurate, because I have had to "fib" a bit here and there. Most of the innacuracy is on the checkerboard nose. The VB model (which is very nice, thanks guys!) uses 3 different textures for the nose. I tried and tried, but could not get the checks to line up. Also, based on the pictures I have, the name LUCKY LEAKY II is supposed to have a yellow surround. I could not get that to look right either, so I left the yellow off.
