747 Fire Tanker and Dreamlifter

I went though the 747’s last night. I am surprised by poor quality and graphical issues on the Fire Tanker and Dreamlifter. Anybody got issues with these two?

Coincidently i thought i'd finally try some of these heavies in FS2024, they look the part ! Must say i was pretty appalled by the glass cockpit monitors of the 747 ! Sheezzz, if not zoomed in close-up on any of 'em i can't read anything ! Not a fan of glass cockpits to begin with but this is rather rediculous isn't it. It's like the're all broken ! Must say i did not try the Firetanker nore Dreamlifter but if they have the same VC as the default passenger 747 (and obviously they do, right ? ) then i see no reason to do so.

I saw a J.Beckett tut of the Airbus Beluga and that's a totally different kettle of fish regarding the glass cockpit ! Even with the overview look (F) in the VC all the MFD's are perfectly readable. That goes the same for all Airbuses and the 737 and 787 as well. I jumped inside the cockpit of the Dreamlifter just to take a look and there deffinately IS a big difference re the glass displays ! They must've been working on the broken MFD's of the default 747.

The external of the Dreamlifter does indeed look pretty cheesy, might be just the textures.... Are there no 3rd party paints for it ??.... Usually a repaint of a not so great looking aircraft model can do wonders !

My understanding is that the "Everything is streaming and encrypted!" model Asobo had at launch (along with FS2024 still essentially being in beta) made it incredibly difficult to repaint the default FS2024 airplanes, so there's very little in the way of repaints for anything except the tubeliners.

Isn't there a 3rd party modified/enhanced version of the default 747 in FS2020 ?.....Never tried it but i seem to remember that project has a dedicated name ? Maybe the VC has been refurbished a bit as well... I'll have a look ;-)

That was the Salty Simulations 747-8, I don't think it is available any longer as the WT upgrade of the default 747-8 addressed all the issues.
The 747-8 cockpit is a later design (more MFDs) than the 747-4 Firefighter and Dreamlifter.
There is a cockpit colour mod for the -8.

It's the change to DXT2 textures PLUS the new modular model/livery structure that's killed repaints for the default aircraft, streaming isn't a problem as the extra liveries are stored locally.

I flew the dream lifter for "Boing" and it had a standard 747-400 cockpit. The Dash-8 has a little more glass but it's not an Err-Buss. The LCF was a little lighter in operating weights as we were mostly hauling volume. Climbed and otherwise performed about like a normal 747 except X wind landings could be interesting, it needed a little rudder in turns and there was a low frequency vibration.

Thanks Keith, Salty Simulations indeed ! I do remember that now and might have had a look at it too. Great to see that the Firefighter and Dreamlifter *do* have good looking MFD's ! Now i have Chase Plane with the easy instruments zoom i might even start to like 'em....;-)

Ok, i see. Thanks ! Haven't found the time to get to that in FS2020 but even if it might not be the best looking model out there the 747 will still be awesome to see in Fly-By mode ! (awesome as well i can just go and test that one of these days. Lost all hope i would ever be able to say that ! )

To avoid graphical LOD issues of Tanker and Dreamlifter, there is a trick with developer mode out.

Debug_LOD.jpg

Debug_LOD1.jpg

Enable force active lod = 0 will show best LOD.
