A good day for historic aviation

In the Netherlands historic flights aren't very common. As I live near Schiphol airport, the local airspace is more or less already claimed by the commercial flight, to and from this airport (over 600,000 flights per year!). This makes historic flights in this region even more rare.

But although flight conditions were very good here, today I saw the Beechcraft D-18S from the Royal Historic Flight in formation with 2 of their 6 Harvards.

I also saw the Dutch Dakota on one of its last flights. The 80 years old PH-PBA will most probably not longer been seen in the skies above the Netherlands anymore. The Dutch Dakota Association has decided to stop their activities. They lost their main sponsor and costs are rising. Due to its history, this aircraft it might also end with the Historic flight or it will be sold.

And perhaps not as impressive as the aircraft above, I also noticed a Piper P-18 Super Cub from 1954 (PH-ZVC). It is an aircraft which is used for aerial advertising, but which also can be rented. This Super Cub is an ex-Royal Netherlands Air Force L-21, which has been restored in yellow factory colours and which has been fitted with a more powerful 150pk Lycoming O-320 engine.

Have you seen any interesting aircraft lately?

Cheers,
Huub

You are lucky to have heard and seen so many round engine birds flying at once. As they say, " Real Airplanes"!

One day last week I looked up and saw a Republic Seabee. It appeared to be heading for Barnes Municipal KBAF in Westfield, Mass.

What i see at airshow's dos'nt really count, but i am quite privileged where i live, around Manston and down the coast to Deal and Dover, we get overflights from various 2 seat Spitfire's doing pleasure flights around the area. I believe there's 2 operating out of Biggen, and another from Headcorn and will fly over my home once or twice a week, and if your walking the white cliffs at the weekend, one will appear every couple of hours.
