Why the plane explodes when it lands whithout gear ?
It's a pity because with this rhythm it will stay there hardly and "the war is impossible" !:bump:

Well, i never land with no landing gear and with no hurt. But when well done, it does not explode.
Just try to imagine to land at 150/200 km/h without landing gear. Probability to die would be high. So, your wing commander would probably tell you to bail out instead of risking your life for a crashed aircraft.

try also manual command for landing gear.

The plane ALWAYS explodes after crashlanding or landing with sufficient damage. It seems to be hardcoded and did bother me in the past; every time I performed a (in my eyes) perfect wheels-up landing, the aircraft blew up... :angryfir:
But as long as the pilot runs away or does his "Oh, what a lucky bastard I am"-routine, you 're alright and live to fight another day...

Let me scratch for the thread where it was explained how to do........
 
In real life, some aircraft are bloody difficult to belly-land; the D.520 and Hurricane among others, for the same reason - that bloody great oil-cooler sticking out underneath catches in the earth and before tearing away, brings your nose down hard onto the deck, with the well known effect that you'd imagine.

CFS3 can't model that unfortunately, but some aircraft you can crash-land better than others. The MS.406 does it quite well, I seem to remember. The MB.152 on the other hand is not even a beta model; it's really only an AI and shouldn't be considered as being up to the mark for player flying. Having said that, yes, I do fly mine, too...

But Frosty and Oki are absolutely right, so as long as you can walk away, you've done your job!

how to tweak cfg for belly landing

I bought the JF BoB pack a while back and discovered that when ditching or crash landing in any of their aircraft (exept the stuka) as soon as the prop toutches the ground, the plane explodes. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

Yes that can be fixed. It is a by product of the way MS does the prop damage that is not quite in sync on those. Easiest fix is to backup the .cfg files for those and open up the cfg of the plane you want to change and the cfg file of the nearest AVH equivalent (eg the Hurricane Mk1a or the 109E). Then go to the [contact_points] section and replace the JF entries beginning with point.3 with those from the Avh version. Next make sure your max_number_of_points = value is the same as the AvH one. Then go down to the [GeneralEngineData] Section and replace your JF entries for "Engine.0 =" with the values from the AvH version. Do the same for the [propeller] section, "propeller_diameter =" value. Then save the revised .cfg file and delete the .bdp file for that aircraft. That should do it.

Thanks Oki but I resolved the problem by removing 3 files XML in "Animation" : crashed_dive, crashed_h_kiss and crashed_h_rock.
The plane does not explode in belly-land, screws comply but the pilot does not go out.:wiggle:

Like this : Sub-base of Saint-Mandrier, Toulon. The uboat replaces the french sub (stroke of luke in the bunker). Maybe that in some time there will be one on SOH !

The MS.406 has always landed like that - I used to do it quite a lot during testing! I don't think it has anything to do with the pilot animations...

Hi Nigel, I think that pilot animations provokes explosion of plane.
There no pilot who run, kisses the ground or throws a stone and the game stops. It's a pity for the game...but I like when the aircraft is safe.

Hmm.... I've tried one or two landings like this since, and you're right - there are the bent blades, etc, but when the pilot is out, it catches fire. Must be like cars in American films... :icon_lol:

I don't know the whole story, but the point is that most of the older cfg files didn't allow belly landings without a fatal explosion, no matter how careful the landing was done. There was always a big explosion when hitting the ground. Other models survived the impact sometimes, but the propeller blades milled through the ground without bending or stopping (silly, really).

I believe the AvHistory models started systematically tweaking the cfg files as explained in my earlier post. The trick is now using the tweaked bits of the cfg files for similar models, provided the maximum number of contact points is the same.

I have adapted most of my models, including the stock ones and finish my missions often with a carefully organized belly landing (unless my burning aircraft is falling out of the sky). The animations with the engine exploding and one of about 5 different sequences showing the pilot running or trotting away from his aircraft are somehow triggered by a successful belly landing.
