An old acquaintance; The Bear....

Perhaps old news, but sure it is a must have for Cold war plane fan's.

All Updates By the Nor-Cal Prop Club

This little piece of sentence worries me a lot.
Those guys are the "we update but in fact it still doesn't work"-specialists.
What have they done concretely on this plane ?

Just installed it, takes a while before FSX is started and i can test it.

Gonna let ya know. They added a missile and nuke effect as far as i know at this moment.

The cockpit is reworked to a "Glass cockpit" type thing. It has the GPS, a radar utility and the AP as some sort of MFD. Looks rather nice and it seems to work. The rest of the plane is pretty much as it was in FS9. Props contra-rotate until at full RPM (then they move in same direction). The nuke effect is triggered by the "I" or smoke key, with a missile firing backwards, resolving in a quite low resolution flash with a semi transparent mushroom cloud and scorch-mark on the ground. I think if you want Vlad's original cockpit, download the FS9 one and trade the panel section for this bird's (not included in this package).
IMHO, this bird is a nice add-on (love the Bear for its appearance and Cold War history). Vlad did a great job with the Bear in FS9 :applause:, glad i can enjoy it in FSX as well. Hope one day Vlad and the SAMDIM guy's (if they still exist) join and make an even better one :jump: .

Thanks for the feedback Warrant.
The original panel from Vlad is fine, the problem is the gauges, which are completely incompatible with FSX. I tried once to upgrade it using the XML gauges from the Tu-114, but the names were too complex to understand what did what.

Concerning the SANDIM team (is it a team or a single guy ?), they are still active, and made recently a new Bear, nice looking but without a virtual cockpit. In fact, the VC will be included only in the payware version :/

Daube, I like the VC, but IMHO, the FS9 verion is better externally. The props do not counter-rotate in the FSX version, whereas in the latest FS9 version they do. the sounds are as per the FS9 version, so no complaints there. The metal textures could use a little bit of Alpha, they appear dead flat. It's Flight Dynamics appear to be pretty much the same as in FS9, she takes a long runways, but she is very stable and easy to fly.

Went to the SAMDIM website, anyone have any idea or inside info when payware version will be available?

LOL and I just finished reading 'Red Storm Rising'... nice Tomcat fodder. :costumes:

I have to say, it's a lovely beast. the VC is first-rate. It still needs the counter-rotating props from the FS9 model.

I took this bird for a 2 hour hop today. VC has marginal
functionality, IMO. No VSI in the VC...you have to go to the
2D panel for that as well as setting some AP functions.

There is a gauge problem that causes the tooltips to
blink on and off rapidly and makes operating switches, etc, in
the VC difficult. I haven't taken the time yet to find out which gauge
is as fault but I suspect one of them is sending continous
"KEY" events. Makes entering multi-keystroke commands
difficult, if not impossible.

Pity that you can't see the visual model from the VC.
I really hate those VC/models that give you nothing but
the nav lights floating out there in space.
Even a 'half-baked' implementation like the default
DC-3 would be better than nothing. In that bird you
see the port wing and #1 but the starbord wing and
#2 are absent. In this day and age with TrackIR it is. IMO, imperitive to have the external model visible from
the VC when IRL it would be able to be seen.
Certainly the enormous winspan of the TU-95 falls in
this category.

When I get some time, and inclination, I will look further
into the gauge problem and will probaly reconstruct the
VC gauge placements/types where possible. I really
want a VSI in front of me along with the other 'usual'
basic flight instruments.

The external model looks pretty good but since it's a FS9
port-over, the props suffer the transparency problem.
It looks just like the FS9 model that I am using for AI.
As a matter of fact, with the resurrgence or the Russian
Bear flights, I've been creating AI flightplans, building ADE afcads
and scenery for several Russian bases and sending
TU-95's, 16's, 22's and other military aircraft on
flights that skirt the US boundries. Once I'm finished I'll
have to up in one of my US jets and run some 'interceptions' :)

I wonder if the marginal VC would port back to FS9 Paul? The external model is way better in FS9 and though it has a very good detailed 2-D cockpit, it lacks a VC.

Cazzie I think you are mixing the models.
The Bear from Vlad has always had a VC in FS9, since it was released, and this VC was working fine, you do not need to use this one.

You are confusing the Bear from Vlad with the Bear from Sandim. The Bear from Sandim has a much nicer external model, but no VC, and since it's a FS9 model and not a real FSX one, you cannot use the VC of another plane.

Ah so, I was checking and I do have both. Vlad's is tremendous.
