Horrible to hear.

My prayers are with them. May their families and friends endure this trying time.

There are so many airliners in this world flying around. Thank the Lord that the accidents and crashes are as low as they are. If only there were none..

As Boeing and Airbus are currently the world's two biggest airliner producers...chances are if there's a crash/accident it'll be one or other.

Given those statistics, I wouldn't want to be queing up to fly in a B737 anytime soon

Depends; notice first of all that there are more 737's operating than any other type.

And, it is also one of the ones that has been around the longest. The only other examples of that vintage would be DC-9s; and notice that they nearly equal the 737 in number of accidents; even though there are fewer DC-9s by a factor of 4.

In both cases; it is the older hand-me-down examples operated by secondary airlines you would want to avoid. Finally, the DC-9 has been out of production, while the 737NG is still in production. If you broke out the 737NG from the Classic 737s and looked at their statistics; the 737NG would probably be more like the Airbus models, while the Classic 737s would look like the DC-9s in terms of number of fatal accidents per number currently operating.

I have just heard that a young 14 year old girl has hold onto a wreckage during hours in the Indian Ocean. She was alone in the water, everybody around he was dead. I am not counting on your imagination to feel compassion for the horrors this child must have gone through, because you seem to have none. But for your information, she was rescued. That is why we know about her. Maybe that makes you rethink your attitude-I hope it does.<o

Sometimes numbers do have names, and faces. Bahia, 14 years old, who can't swim and held onto a wreckage for 13 hours in the Indian Ocean is doing better.

Willy, good job at the moderator thing … appreciate it.

However, my feelings are a little harder to injure, or provoke than others here and I have not been offended by things said, as I have considered the source(s) of such blathering, and have therefore disregarded it/them for what they are.

Being a member of The Quarter Moon Saloon as you are, you should be aware of the, (for the lack of a better word), “relationship” between me and at least one other poster in this thread. You should know that nothing serious could have come from any comments made, at least not from my perspective of it.

What we have here is an ill mannered attempt at self appointed conscience for other forum members, and I dare say, a bit of self righteousness. Both of which are extremely exaggerated and unwarranted. Quite pompous and self edifying to say the least for a slow reacting intellect. Nothing to worry about I assure you.

To be sure the loss of life from this event is tragic, and unbelievable the sole miracle, but to presume that by a comment made by me, with regard to future of aircraft manufacturing prospects, that I either minimized the loss, or ignored it altogether, is really very shortsighted, and unintelligible, and is frankly an attempt at self aggrandizement in front of other members of this forum, and was uncalled for.

What is not known, nor could be presumed to be known by anyone other than myself, is that when I heard the news of this event, and realized that there would most likely be loss of life because of this accident, I quickly made my peace with that knowledge, asked God to look after their souls, and moved on in my life, and apparently, I am thinking ahead of the curve of some other posters in this thread when I mention the possible prospects of the future.

Purely a passing thought it was … but yet, a reality to be sure.

While its nice that it was mentioned that “retirement” was set aside for this commenting, it was really unnecessary on the part of this individual to do so. He should have stayed retired, as I never missed him. However, as I said, knowing the source of the comments in question, they really bear no weight with me what so ever.

I pretty much ignored this thread after a certain post was published, but ventured back into it when I saw that you posted the last comment, so I thought I’d see what was up … I again argued with myself about posting further here, but felt that something needed to be said on my behalf so that unknowing members of this forum might appreciate my position, and that the apparent silence on my part was not a recognition of any presumed conscious blow.

Rest assured my conscience is unaffected.

Since you describe my reaction and demand for clarification as “blathering”, I would like you to understand that in this two flights were countrymen of mine, and countrymen of my girlfriend, and the first flight was the national airline of my girlfriends nation. There was a national mourning on that day. I would very much like to know what the reaction on this, in majority American, forum would be if any European member would make the doubtful comments you have made if for example two Boeings of American Airways would have gone down, and if the poster would have hoped for an increasing sale of Airbus as a result. I think the flak that would have unfolded against that poster would have been nothing less than epic! Or imagine anybody here would have cheered at 9/11 in the Newshawks. You think that is exaggerating things? Yes and then no, it’s only two steps away on the scale of shock and insult.
