Another landmark icon in Flight Sim gone.

Ever since FS98, the one landmark in Flight Sim tied to Danville, Virginia was the old Long Mill Dye House and its smokestacks along the Dan River.

Here's a progression of the implosion, swipe the land mark from FS11.

Looks like they forgot to put charges in the white smokestack. :icon_lol:

They didn't plan on imploding the elevator towers. The large white stack was dropped between those and the metal building behind it as an angle, the other stack was dropped vertically. It was most cool to see, hear, and feel.

To tell you the truth, given the amount of unemployment and lack of taxable income people in the city, I think the city's tourist bureau should hire more experts to drop many other derelict buildings in the berg and charge people to observe. :d

Let me guess, they are clearing the way for a new strip mall. I wonder if there has been a new factory built in the US in the last 25 years. Great shots by the way.

More info on those elevator towers and the white stack.

It did not go as planned, but thanks be to God, no one was injured and no homes nearby even so much as got any debris in their yards. But note that the white tower fell to the right. It was not supposed to do that, it was supposed to drop on the elevator towers and take them out.

Trans, this was the Dye House for Dan River Mills Fabrics, who sold out lock, stock, and barrel to an Indian textile firm. A group of developers have owned the property since 2005 when DRM sold out. They have plans for a combination retirement village with shops, but given the current economic situation, especially here, I expect they are just dreamers. The building itself was derelict and there would have been no way for anyone to have saved it. One other good thing about the implosion is that it probably took out 10 - 15% of Danville's pidgeon population. The old building was infested with pigeons and people doing the necessary excavation in preparation of the implosion said the was a half to an inch of pigeon poop on the floors. If there every was such a thing as a "tree rat", it is a pigeon.

We have so many derelict buildings here they could blow up one everyday for the remainder of year and not get them all. This place looks more like Beirut than the small American city that existed in the years prior to NAFTA and GATT. And at the current point in time, it's probably more dangerous to be out at night than Beirut, especially for women. People are robbing people in public during the day even. They say give up your money, but I have been packing since the mid-nineties and I am not about to give up my money if I have a drop on the perp. It's the Wild West Show all over again.

And Panther, as much as I hate to say it, 99 and 44/100% of the crime are black on black or black on Pakistanis, who own all of the local "Stop n Robs" in this dink. They will not hit a Korean concern, because Koreans are all armed and will shoot you as soon as look at you. They found that out last year when they tried to rob an elderly Korean gentleman's restaurant. Two dead perps and one dying. No sir, they don't mess with the Koreans. :d
