I am still in Indianapolis, but will be headed back to Farner, TN tomorrow morning.

My visit here has been quite rewarding. I had a wonderful time, seeing my relatives, and this evening I obtained a lot of pictures/information about my dad's time on Aruba with the US Army's HQ Company that until now I was not able to gather information about.

One of the items I found was a handwritten journal, beginning with his shipboard experiences on a US Army Transport Ship from New Orleans to Aruba.

The ship mentioned in his journal was the S.S. ATS "Florida". I just did some searching but haven't found anything about it. All I have found so far, is a website that mentions the US Army's "Ghost" fleet: http://patriot.net/~eastlnd2/Army.htm

I am hoping someone here can possibly provide more information about the "Florida"?

Just a WAG, but could "Florida" perhaps be not the correct name? Incorrect for security purposes, even though it's a personal journal. Maybe it's a city in Florida, or something along those lines. ??
 
i just picked up a small book on PT boats. it has some good pics and info in it. my dad was a signal man on a sub chaser in ww2. he could do morse code at light speed even right before he died 40 years after the war
