Australian aerobatic pilot killed

AussieMan

SOH Staff .."Bartender"
It is with deep sadness that I report the death of Australian champion aerobatic pilot and friend Tom Moon http://www.smh.com.au/news/news/general/champion-pilot-killed/2009/01/20/1232213598441.html.

Over the years I have been visiting the museum at Temora on flying days I got to know Tom very well. A nicer man you could not wish to meet. One of my mates is a volunteer there and would always give Tom a hard time, but being the jovial type he was Tom always took it in his stride.

He would wait until he was in the air then he would give Thommo his payback. Always in good fun though.

During his routine In his Extra 300 Tom would give a running commentary and also give some of his mates on the ground a hard time.

He also flew the CAC Wirraway for it's display.

RIP Tom and condolences to your family and friends at Temora.

Cheers
Pat

..looks like the next flying weekend will be a memorial

........surely this poem was made for TOM

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
