Barksdale AFB Open House officially cancelled

Barksdale's (Bossier City, LA) annual Open House event, scheduled for May 4-5 has been cancelled due to the widening effects of the
ongoing budget cuts. :isadizzy: I was hoping to attend this year and rewalk the steps that my father had walked so many
times on the base that he serverd for over 3 decades. Maybe next year.

Too bad, but I guess cancelled open houses are better than cancelled operations or important programs. Still, it is a shame; but I'm sure that it's an harbinger of things to come.

My uncle flew B-47 Stratojets out of Barksdale AFB.

By the way, for those of you who would like to visit Barksdale in the cyber skies of flight simulation, Alphasim has their Barksdale AFB available on their Freeware scenery page.

Here's the link:

Unfortunately due to an oversight by Virtavia Barksdale and many other current Team SDB FS9 sceneries were made available for download in the rebuilding of the site following the recent hacking. Many may not know this but all the Alphasim scenery was mine and Bob Baum did the AI programming and we marketed it through Alphasim. When Alphasim's policy changed we withdrew all the FSX scenery and the FS9 scenery that we wanted to market as Team SDB. After I'd contacted him today Phil decided to close down the scenery section to be safe.
Regretably I only just found out today so who knows what's out there in the public domain.

But as I type this a brand new FSX Barksdale is growing on my HDD, around 80% finished. It will have AI and static B-52s and they will be removeable ( for you B-47 guy's). The FS9 version is still available but not as freeware, sorry :) and will remain on sale for as long as I feel there is a market. ( it's still selling). Price is only $9, less than a packet of ciggies here in the UK.
Now that we have Bing maps I can actually see what the hangars look like :). What a godsend that would've been back in my Alphasim days.

Mickey, please keep us advised of the FSX Barksdale you are working on....would like to add it as when I fly, it's out of Barksdale (in FSX). Good news indeed!

This is from the Facebook page of McDill AFB, Tamp, FL :"AirFest 2013 is officially cancelled. AirFest fans, I apologize for not announcing this on Facebook until now but we wanted to officially tell our performers and sponsors before announcing to the masses. It has been my honor to serve as the director of this show even as we put it prematurely to bed. Along with AirFest's team we have tried to break out of the normal show and bring MacDill's show... to the forefront and set the highest standard of AirShows! This years work will not be forgotten and we are already in the process of planning the next show. Please continue to spread the word as this site will be updated with MacDill information."
