Here are a couple of titles you may be interested in:

Clear the Deck! Aircraft Carrier Accidents of World War II
by Cory Graff, ISBN 9781580071192, $16.95
Interesting assortment of crunches, ditchings, and nasty flight deck mishaps. Lotta guys having "a bad day at the boat". Nothing graphic or morbid, but some good close-up views of aircraft detail. Also some pre-war mishaps with TBD's, F2A's, etc.

US Navy A-1 Skyraider Units of the Vietnam War
by Richard Burgess and Rosario M. Rausa, ISBN 9781846034107, $22.95
New release (March) from Osprey, got my copy last week. Title says it all, Navy A-1's of all flavors in Vietnam ops 1960-70. "Electric" Spads (EA-1E/F) included. Good historical narrative with lots of sea stories, many color profiles and also color pics so you can judge for yourself how dirty carrier aircraft can get, at least back then. One of the more expensive Osprey titles but worth the $ for Spad fans. My cover pic is the actual cover, not what is shown on some websites.

Tarps, is John McCain in the Skyraider book. I met the man that he was a wingman for in Nam at MAAM's WWII Weekend back in 2007. The guys family owned Archway Cookies.. and for the life of me I can't remember his name.

GT, there's no mention of McCain in the Osprey book. His first combat tour was the ill-fated Forrestal cruise in 1967 and by then he was flying A-4's.
He flew Spads in the 60-64 time frame.
