Cannot get pc to configure to SLI....

Navy Chief

Senior Member
Am running AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800 on a Lan Party 939 motherboard.

I received a 2nd BFG 8800 GT OC 512 video card today, but am not able to get the cards to work in SLI.

I have the latest Nvidia driver, but the option for SLI is not showing up in the Nvidia Control Panel.

I have looked for a configuration in Setup on boot up, but cannot find anything that would turn on SLI, other than SLI Broadcast Aperture, which according to Nvidia http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_ask_mmm015.html is not what I am looking for.

Anyway, thought maybe someone could help me with this?

THanks

you need to be more specific on "not working."

- does your system "see" the card at least when you boot up? (you can check the device manager).
- if you system does not even see the card, then something is not connected correctly on the motherboard. Make sure both are receiving power (fan turning), and the SLI bridge is connected. Also, what is your power supply's watt? two 8800 will require some serious power. Maybe one of the cards is underpowered right now...
- if you system does see it, then it's a driver problem. Try uninstall the driver and re-installing

are you running this for FS9? If so, you might get a performance drop. For FSX, it should help a little...

Hey Chief, did you enable sli detection in the Bios. It should be listed under one of the sub menus. I had to do that on my xfx 590 sli board.

And also check to make sure the sli bridge is installed in the correct orientation. YES I know it shouldn't really matter, but it did on my rig, just thought I let you know.

Get nHancer too, but do check the BIOS and bridge connection first.

nHancer will better configure your nVidia card than the nVidia Control Panel will ever do.

Thanks all. Like I mentioned, I did look in the Bios settings, but the only item that had the word SLI was, "SLI Broadcast Aperture", and that apparently had no effect, as I put it on Auto.

I will change the orientation of the bridge; maybe that will help. The cards ARE being recognized in Device Manager though.

I have NHancer.

Chief,
Open Nvidia Control Panel from Windows Control Panel via the Start Button. Then click on the blue high lighted task in the left pane and check the Enable SLI radio button on the right panel.

Chief,
Open Nvidia Control Panel from Windows Control Panel via the Start Button. Then click on the blue high lighted task in the left pane and check the Enable SLI radio button on the right panel.

Down in bottom right corner there should an Apply button or Cancel Button, press the Apply it will ask to close other window functions confirm yes. Once done the screen may go blank a couple time then ask to confirm if you wish to keep setting, click yes.

SLI should then be enabled.

Have you got the SLI bridge in place?

I have Nvidia Control Panel version 2.1.270.00 and have Advanced Settings enabled. After enabling, you can go into Manage 3D settings (the next task up from Set SLI configuration) and choose your SLI performance mode.

The SLI mode is NOT showing up on my Nvidia Control Panel. The problem must be driver other than the video driver, i.e. motherboard, or bios...... Still checking.

I used GPU-Z to check status of video cards. They are both recognized. Program says SLI is available, but not enabled. No sh.. Anyway, I also noticed that the bios version of the cards is not the same. No idea if that matters.

Thanks.

Thanks Waco. Checking it out now. I will also call BFG support. It's free, and they are there 365 24/7. When I initially talked to the tech, he said to make sure all drivers were up to date; but not sure if that applies to the cards.

What he means, Chief, is altho each PCI-Express slot has a 16x bandwith, installing two cards, bridging them, and enabling SLI reduces each slot to 8x. The upside is that with a dual core processor and dual threading, you get a dedicated card for either alternate painting the display or each paints only half the display. That way you can run more detail. On this machine I'm running now, which is a dual core processor, I can run a 1600x900 resolution with all the eye candy turned up high. And it's a 28 inch wide screen. Great immersion.

I am using a crt monitor for secondary displays, i.e. cockpit, but my primary display is a 6 foot by 8 foot wall screen, with a BENQ DLP projector.

My system says it is now SLI enabled, but I get no display from the top card if the DLP projector is plugged into it.

No idea what's wrong. Prior to reconfiguring motherboard switches to SLI, the top card worked fine with Projector.

Chief, I forget where I read it, but probably in one of the mobo manuals I got, but with SLI enabled the video output from the 'puter comes from the top card on the I/O plate on the back of the tower to your monitor. That's worked for me with both VGA and HDMI signals on both computers. My earlier build is about to become my 3rd build when I get the new CPU from vendor over Seattle way. This all depends on what the passes are like after this snow storm we're having. I live over on the east side above Spokane and anticipate 24 inches on my roof come morning. I lost a power supply, mobo, and processor and have the first two already installed. I'll have to see if the top card works on it, also. What kind of input does the dlp projector take? I was thinking about a wall screen maybe but bought a 40 inch Samsung LCD HiDef 1080 TV. Which is presently sitting in the corner of the room in it's box.
