Classic airports before 1945

Hallo friends,,
for "classic flying" in the aera before 1945 I miss some airports closed today but which was important civil airports before and a bit alos in the war taime.
If someone will be interested to bring them back alive I will furnish a lot of docs.
For the moment I am most interested in Berlin Staaken and Cologne Butzweilerhof (which has nothing to do with Cologne-Bonn.
It would be fine to get for FS2004 some of the forgotten airports back tu us

Would that fall under Golden\Platinum Wings?
That would be great, as we already have a Poland 1930's for that.

as sadly I have any knowledge about scenery making I hope that some of those who know would pick up the challenge
to enrich Silver/ Golden / Platinum Wings.
There have been almost done three of the historic british airfields and for france the historic airport of Le Bourget exists -
but for germany I do not know any historic airport done apart different versions of Berlin Tempelhof.
Doing flights using the am radiostations Jorge has almost published will be a real alternative as to fly with gps and fmc.

Hi Michael,
I have my 'normal' install, as well as Jorge's PW, what I'm adding suitable (for me) scenery, such as that Poland (1930), Ford Tri-Motor scenery, and other scenery that sort of fits the Golden/Platinum aera, with a touch of Silver wings as well, with suitable low & slow aircraft.
That is the beauty of FS2004, we can make whatever we want with it.

Anyhow, to at least enrich your silver wings Europe, why not try the airport releases, released by Wolfgang Gersch, Mike Stevens and team, for it may well be what you are looking for...

They are almost in service on my sim LOL
I have focalized a bit on older german airports that have disapeared completly today as I' m
working on some german civil aircraft. Especialy those from Hauke Keitel who needs new cockpits.
What I thought in the beginning as a quick task did show much more finaly.
Wonder what has become Hauke Keitel as he has done a civil version of the Junkers Ju 86, but never published it as far
as I know
Luckily Jorge works with me. As we do not work for money we take our time to make the outcome as well
as possible.
I hope that some one will be willing to do the missing german airports used before 1945. As most where closed after a short use post war
by the allied forces. And in germany the past things - no need of any commentary.

Hi Michael,

It would certainly be very desirable if more scenery were available for the prewar period. However, in times of MSFS2020, this is becoming more difficult and unlikely with each passing day. Unfortunately.

Fortunately, there are still talented people like Kan Elliot, Pete or Al Van Pingle who created interesting addons. However, these are located in the area of WWII and are therefore not particularly useful for the prewar period. That's why the only option is to try to create some places yourself. This is a little easier, especially since you don't need any complex infrastructure.

Some time ago I added the following airports, among others:

They are by no means masterpieces, but at least they are better than default sceneries, which aren't available for these airfields. Furthermore they are only used with AI traffic and don't include approach facilities.

WB mentioned Bordeaux. Practically all CalClassic airports for an er which is over twenty years later. Most airports have considerably changed and expanded. IMO, there aren't suitable. However, Ian Elliot has released a Bordeaux Mérginac, which can be used very well as prewar scenery.

The Platinium Wings package done by Jorge Rachid are very helpful addons to enrich the prewar world. But this is a very ambitious project, and it won't be able to cover everything everyone would want! Meanwhile I learned to live with the whole FS9 situation and the sad vintage lacks.

Where would it be possible to get these scenery of Berlin Staaken, Munich Oberwiesenfeld (which has become the Olympiapark today)
and Cologne Butzweilerhof?
If these sceneries could be avaible for free download it certainly could interest more people than me and Jorge.

Whether it's Modern day, 'Classic' or 'Early', the chances of finding someone to create Scenery are becoming almost non existent. It's one of those Skillsets that those 'in the know' keep close to the vest, and have done for many years now, just like Repainting. More times than not, someone just posts a Link to particular Scenery Creation software and leave it at "you're on your own".

It's getting to the point where if someone wants a specific Scenery for their Sim, we're pretty much leaning towards creating it ourselves with the Tools that are currently out there. Time for a new Project during the Winter... learning how to do it! :unsure:
 
Documentation might be an issue. Small local airports tend to be not well documented except perhaps in local sources like local historical societies or local libraries, not accessible except to folks who live in that locality. In America we have the Forgotten Airfields site created by Paul Freeman. Before I mentioned it I thought I should check to see if the site is still live, and when I Googled for the URL what should I find but Forgotten Airfields Europe, "after an original idea by Paul Freeman."

Here's the link: Forgotten Airfields Europe . Maybe this will inspire some scenery designers to make some historical small airfields.
 
Mike, thanks for your post. The site is certainly the master reference for vintage and retro airfields. Each time I'm surprised and amazed at how many airfields there were back then and how actively they were used. The site could be a eal treasure trove for scenery gurus!

Anyone got a line on a RAF/USAAF Control Tower building that can be inserted as a Scenery Object? I'm looking to create a couple of small airstrips using that building.
