Col. "Bud" Anderson Flies West

modelr

SOH-CM-2025
"Brig. Gen. Clarence "Bud" Anderson, the last American fighter pilot known as a "triple ace" for downing 16 German planes during World War II, died in his sleep May 17 at his home in Auburn, California. He was 102."

Fair winds and blue skies, Sir.

Was lucky enough to meet him in the mid-90s when I was writing the flight sim column for Computer Gaming World magazine. Really nice and amazingly knowledgeable guy. He was advising on a combat flight sim (pretty sure it was Jane's WW2 Fighters) and he had some amazing stories.

Read his book To Fly and to Fight if you haven't already. Fantastic read.

I have read his book and heard him speak on a podcast. I was amazed at his mental acuity. He was 98 at the time. Rest in peace valiant warrior.
