Color Pallets

Hopefully some one can help me out with this, today i viewed pics taken of a Navy HH-60H side number NW202 with HSC-84. The aircraft is the authorized "Legacy" bird and was painted in HA(L)-3 style colors and markings. What I need is a pallet for GIMP that is either Fed Standard or a close approximation. This repaint is for FS2004 and I wish to give it to former shipmates for their use. Once I can find the right pallet I can then figure out whether to use the SH-60 from FD4 or the freeware one from HC.
Thanks for any info in this quest.

this is a little cumbersome, but it will work. If you know the FS595 numbers you need, go to this website

http://www.colorserver.net/

when the sample screen comes up, hit the print screen key, then open Gimp and use the Edit then Paste command to open the screenshot you just took, then crop and save it in a convenient place as a bitmap labeled with the FS595 name or number. When you are working on your repaint open the sample in another screen and use the color picker tool (looks like little eyedropper) to get an exact match, close the sample and your good to go. HTH

Thanks norab!!
...Are there any other places of this nature, more vibrant or different palette selections?

Hmm, very nice. I have searched for places of this nature in the past. At times I like doing some wild stuff and the means of Photoshop for seeing the spectrum leaves a lot to be desired. I always wished I could find a place that showed the colors in unison, and as placed for blending purposes later on. I never did find exactly what I was wanting and gave up.

I'm looking forward to any and all direction you can share.
..Thanks

Thanks for the fast replies, the links given out are what i was looking for and i found an addon to Firefox called Pallet Grabber that will save the color I want to a format that GIMP can read in it's pallet menu.

It's going to take a long time with this as it's going out to and dedicated to shipmates in the Navy CSAR community. So this will be a labor of love. To make a long story short, two squadrons in the US Navy, HSC-84 and HSC-85, trace their history back to HC-7 and HA(L)-3 from the Viet Nam war. We have a proud history that is not well know outside certain communities and every so often it's nice to show off. The two predecessor squadrons HCS-4 and HCS-5 did multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan with no loss of personnel or aircraft to enemy action.

I am proud to have been a member of the Navy CSAR/SPECWAR community and proud of what my shipmates have accomplished.

norab, I'll have a look. Thanks for those.

Strikehawk, I never knew of the palette grabber for firefox, thanks for that also. It may come in handy.

I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned yet, but under "colour swatches", http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/ has a selection of palettes - FS595b (1000-3000 series), RAL, and various countries (Australia, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Russia, UK, US) Most are geared to WWII, however. Each palette has RGB and Hex codes for the colors, as well as a color sample for the color pickers.
