• There seems to be an up tick in Political commentary in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site we know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religiours commentary out of the fourms.

    If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

    Please note any post refering to a politicion will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment amoung members. It is a poison to the community. We apprciate compliance with the rules.

December 7th, come and almost gone. A day that brought out the best and worse of people, regardless of affiliation. Lest we forget.
 
December 7th - "A day that will live in infamy". It propelled the isolationist United States, kicking and screaming, into World War II.
The 3,000 killed at Pearl Harbor was just the tip of the spear that was followed by thousands of deaths given in aid of the country.
The country was driven overnight to a wartime way of life and everything was dedicated to winning the war.
The women sang, "Their Either too Young or Too Old" as every man that was fit, joined the service. It caused this sixteen year old kid to join the Navy, - just to kill Japs.
People at home went without. Gasoline was restricted to five gallons a month. This is with cars that only gave 10 miles to a gallon. Meat, Coffee, Butter, Eggs and even Cigarettes would require a ration stamp, providing these items were available.
It was a terrible day and something I hope is not repeated. But it should be remembered.
Just in case we forget.
 
We have a 'Pearl Harbour' memorial service in Victoria, started and carried through by the RAAF Association.
I doubt Australia will forget.

Beautiful, Helldiver. I love how you put it in a way that even I can really get a small feeling of what life in the early '40's may have been like.

Agreed, the Aussies are always welcome by me. They've been there with us in many conflicts, and I really consider them our Sister Nation. They, too, come from those Brits. :d :friday: :ernae:
 
The Aussies are a tough bunch. Do some research on Gallipoli. While their efforts did not result in a military win, what they did give made them true winners. :ernae:
