Default aircraft - do I need to keep them?

I remember that it was advisable to keep the default aircraft in FS9 and possibly FSX, I understood because of aliases to gauges and sounds etc, but is it necessary in P3D? My Airplanes folder is cluttered with stuff I never fly and it would be nice just to have my current aircraft in it.

I would think you need them. How about just renaming the panel folder in each a/c then they should not appear in the sims list. If there is an issue then just need to un-rename them (is that a word?)

That's what I do all the time. If an aircraft has more than one panel folder you have to rename them all - I just change them to Xpanel or Xpanel.G1000 etc.
