• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

DHS Warns That Java Flaw

This is news how? Eveything has a bad side. Like today I saw that potato chips cause cancer...

I am convinced that living causes death.

Oh, and 100% of all divorces have been found to begin with marriage.

Yes, it seems that there is a downside to just about everything. I have Java turned off in my web browsers and I actually have very few plug-ins.

I apologize for my pithy mood, I have now have the cold that my wife came down with a few days ago.

:wavey:So did I:salute:

The story I saw on the news recommended disabling "Java" but not "Java-script". When I looked in the settings of Google Chrome I found Java-script but no Java. Was I not looking in the right place? Should I disable Java-script? Should I just turn off my computer and put in in the closet?

another update today, now your computer ask you if you would like to run an app when you go to a page where java is needed.

Do not disable any of them. Do not turn off your computer and put it in the closet. Do not pass go and collect $200. Just use common sense when visiting websites. That's it!

Java and JavaScript are completely different coding languages with different purposes, capabilities, and flaws. Most Java applets will ask to be run. Web browsers generally have a control for turning off JavaScript.

Use common sense and always keep your OS and software updated, even if it is thoroughly frustrating and annoying.

Good advice, Kiwikat, unfortunately, common sense no longer exists among the masses.

Oh, I am SO tempted to make a remark with regards to common sense lacking amongst the masses, but it would undoubtedly cause this thread to be locked. But....am sure my inference is easily understood:) NC
