Dimming landing lights ...

Hi everybody ...

a question, that I deal with for a long time now:

How can I get rid of those d... bright landing lights ? if they are implemented in the flight model ... well ... might be a little complicated. But in this case, concerning the wonderful all - new f-86, there is a fx. file especially for the landing lights.

So I think, there must be a way, to bring that lights to a normal and realistic level. Because otherwise they are spoiling all that wonderful experience of nightflying ...

Anyone who could help ?

there are two textures with control the global landing lights. They are halo.bmp and spotlight.bmp. Halo is the texture shown on the actual airplane, and spotlight is what shows up on the tarmac.

I assume you want to dim the spotlight down. Search on AVSIM, there are a bunch of replacements. I use one myself that's much more realistic (from avsim), but i cant remember the file's name at this moment.

*edit* search for "fs2k4_ll.zip" and remember to always backup first

Wonderful ... thanks a lot ! ... maybe I have a try reworking it myself ...

Just reworked it and put the (in my eyes) correct brightness to the files ... is there a way to attach zip-files here ? so I could share my work ... !?

When you reply there's "Manage Attachments" in Additional Options. You can add an attachment by clicking on that... if it's allowed by the Admins. A window will pop up giving you the option to upload from your computer. Don't upload anything that might have a virus in it....check it first with a virus scan. ;) Also add a readme to the zipfile on where it goes.

Zip Files aren't allowed by the upload manager, but you can upload a bitmap directly as long as it's 976.6 KB or less.

Okay ... thanks ... but uploading files one by one plus the according readmes is not a good opportunity :frown: ...

You could always try upload services like RapidShare, or PM Douglas for an upload password here.

Well, thanks for the suggestion Tom ... but I had to learn, that my creation has one disadvantage: the light of some other aircraft (like the Level-D for example) is too dark now, to be fully realistic.

So I have to solve this problem first, before I think about uploading ...

I believe the amount of light projected on the runway is dependent on the model. All that can be done would probably be to find a decent brightness that works with most planes.
