Dornier Do24 T3 flying boat - Released!

Shessi

SOH-CM-2025
Hi Folks,
This is the next one I'm working on. I've taken Wim Regeers's (many thanks wim!) old Dutch Do24K made in 2004 for Fs9, and been cobbling it into a Luftwaffe Seenotdiesnst 24T3.

Wim didn't do a VC, so I've taken the GC Do24N VC, re-built and animated it, and shoved it into the new 24. New BMW engines, spinners, crew, EDL mid turret, wires and loads more, re-mapped textures with a new texture. Found some great new sounds....loads still to do.....oh and another bit of atmospheric fun scenery to go with it....;).

Hi Shessi,

Looking forward to the Do24, perhaps these pics will help with the VC.

Thanks Shessi, that's a really nice surprise! Always liked the Do24, as its a sort of the German predecessor of the Catelina and funny enough many were built in the Netherlands by Fokker before the war.

Definitely looking forward to this one!

Thanks Paul,
Interesting article, great to see the museum opening up the exhibits for the 'old boys'.

Huub,
Yes, one of the oddest built/used ac. Built by Dornier for the Dutch military, then built by the Dutch for themselves, then built by the Dutch and the Germans for the Germans, and the Spanish. Used by the Dutch against the Germans and Japanese; by the Germans against all, by the Spanish for all, and by the Australians against the Japanese???!! ha!

Cheers

Looks like you're putting a lot into this "restoration", Shessi... You surely picked a worthy candidate, the Do-24 was a very graceful bird... clean and smooth, IMO. Looking forward to watching this one come full circle, mate.

Man, would I love to see a that converted to a Do24ATT Amphibian!

Has anyone ever done that one for FS?

Hi Folks,
just about finished, just going out to the eagled-eyed ones, to check over, and then hopefully good to go!

Cheers

Mark,

If you've done one for CFS2, I'd love to include her in the Balkans project. :jump:

Outstanding job, you have a knack for producing timely additions!

Just uploaded

Hi Folks
Just uploaded the Do24 for Fs9.

There's also some rescue scenery as well uploaded separately.

Cheers

Very nicely executed, Shessi. The 2D and VC have very readable, clear, period specific gauges and all of it matches up. A very easy plane to fly, as was the real Do-24. You did a superb job on Wim's classic model.

Thanks for all of your efforts, mate.

That would be cool, and btw have you thought about uploading each version to Flightsim.com can't find it there but just came back from search at Flightsim and wanted to check here on the file library...its ok

Glad you like it folks.

Wim,
Many thanks to you, as it wouldn't be here without your initial building skills and generosity!

Darren,
I could, but I want to encourage people to visit and support SOH. So by making ac exclusive to SOH, it makes them have to join, and eventually (hopefully!) chuck some money here!

Thanks BB/TARPS for your eyes.

Cheers

ps. A Turbo Do24 would be nice, but a huge amount of work to achieve, if anyone is volunteering! ;)

Thank you ... nice looking aircraft
I have a question of upmost importance :adoration:
How I can set it on the water ?
I make the smootest possible water touch ... but the plane jump immediately in the sky ... and will continue it's "yoyo" sequence :redfire:
I remember have also the problem with another hydroplane age ago and it was a contact point prob ....

Hi Nav,
Hmmm, don't have the same prob, and I don't think many seem to, as I'm sure people would shout about it.

It may be that you have a different terrain mesh, or scenery add-on that is affecting the sea level, which in turn causes the ac to think it's 'crashing' (due to height differences) and therefore put you back into the air, when you try to land. Try turning off the sim setting that allows detecting crashes, not really a deal breaker here as is not that realistic how it works.

I've just tried it with detecting crashes activated, and starting or flying onto water does not cause any crashes.

Other than that, I can't really say, possibly you have a joystick problem? That although you think it's a smooth landing the controller causes a glitch??

Also try flying in different parts of the world, funnily M$ did not make all the worlds water the same level!! See if that makes a difference.

Cheers

Shessi

I don't think it's a mesh or sea level problem
On the same place .. no problems with many hydroplanes (Alphasim Catalina .... Wildcat with floats .. Alphasim Arado ... many Cessna's .. Kawanishi ... etc )

Edit
Solution found (for me at least)
In contact points I modified this
static_pitch =0
To
static_pitch =2.0// 0
No more bouncing
