When I post a comment here and then decide to add or make corrections to it, I always get a blank slate and don't see the post I just made.

Why is that? This happens some times.
 
It is certain special characters the forum software doesn't like. I found the issue a few years ago. The one I know causes it is like the apostrophe. Located on the number characters. I think it is an accent mark for non English language.
 
And it doesn't always work in all browsers or operating systems. I just tried it now and had no issue with the edit with the character in the post. This seems to be a problem related to the browswer/version, operating system/release.

The key you don't want to use if this happens to you is the key to the left of the 1. Having the ` as the lower symbol and ~ as the upper.
