essentials

If you were to completely reinstall FS9, what would you consider essential to each new installation?

One thing is for sure: I would keep it simple.

GE Pro, EET (Mesh), Ultimate Weather, and some good replacement water textures are my essentials.
I have made the mistake before of installing almost everything available, just because it was 'there'.
This has real negative effects on FS9's performance, loading times etc.
There are some good guides out there i.e. this by David 'Opa' Marshall http://www.simviation.com/simviation/?ID=91 (a bit outdated),
and of course Obio's great compilation of free improvements and addons. http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?44185-Making-FS9-Look-Great-For-Free-Version-2
All in all it is a question of personal taste and requirements.

Better weather than Jeppesen, a good navigation plugin (can't remember the app that replaced FSNav), A decent mesh for the major mountain regions - including Hawaii, and the latest FSUIPC... Then start adding in your planes and airports.

Landclass wasn't mentioned. Imo as important as anything. Ultimate Terrain isn't essential but comes close.

I'm in the process of starting w/ FS2004 completely from scratch. The one thing I wish I had done before my FS9 PC (running XP) went to PC heaven was to list out not only what tweaks and scenery add-ons etc I had installed, but I wish I had saved my FS9.CFG file with all my controller assignments, sensitivity adjustments. Also I wish I had saved all the video tweaks I had done.
