Family history, and remembering....

My sister, Melissa, stopped by for a short visit this past Tuesday, on her way down to Sanibel Island for a vacation. She brought with her two file boxes of pictures to give me.

It is overwhelming, the amount of pictures! A lot of my family pictures and other irreplaceable information was destroyed by my ex-wife, when we were going through the divorce, and I had mistakenly left them in the attic. So until my sister brought these boxes, I had resigned myself to just forgetting about such things.

But going through the pictures is a joy to undertake. I thought I would attach a few of them, to show what I mean. I fortunately have a cousin in California who is an avid geneologist, and has been working on our family tree. This has been a lot of fun!

Am sure this thread will start a lot of family picture posts, and that is a good thing!

Just to give more details:

Top row of pictures

Top Row, left - at opening of a Peoples Bank branch in Indianapolis, around 1970, with then Calif. Gov. Reagan, my dad on his left, and another bank manager

Top Row, middle - my dad, Arnold Douglas Ward, probably around 1962 or so.

Top right - my Great, Great, Grandfather George Frederick Schirmer

Second Row, Left - Me, onboard USS Saratoga, with VFA-83, 1990

Second Row, Middle - my mom, Lois B. Jackson Ward

Second Row, Right - My great grandfather Hughes O. Jackson, and his son, my grandfather Georger O. Jackson.

Bottom Row, Left - My great great great grandfather Schirmer's house in Speyer, Germany. Philip Schirmer was his name. He was a political revolutionary, and the King of Bavaria threw him in prison. His wife pleaded for mercy, they were about to behead Philip. The King spared him on the condition he leave the country with his family immediately. Philip sailed to the US with his family, and the Bavarian govt. seized the house. It is still there, and is now the Speyer Tourist Headquarters.

Bottom Row, Right - my dad in Aruba. He was stationed with the US Army's 38th Division, Headquarters Company there during WW2. Their job was to protect the refineries on the island. Rough duty, eh?
