Found a way to tolerate shopping.....

I started doing this months ago, and it works great for me.

Get yourself a MP3 player. I have more than one (cheap ones). They hold a lot of music (and in my case, podcsts from talk radio).

I wear one every time I get dragged into going with my wife to Wal-Mart (I call it Wally World). The MP3 player allows me to "ignore" everything and everyone around me. Really helps a LOT!!!!!

Try it!

Hey Chief, try my way... When Mrs Boomer says "you want to go shopping?" I say "ummmmm NO!"

Works every time :)

Fortunately when my whats me to go shopping at the mall there is a Barnes & Noble book store next door. So I head over there and look at books etc. and when she is finished she calls me on my cell phone and I get the car and pick her up.

Chief;
Here is what I do. Works when we travel also as my wife loooooooves to peruse ALL the shops in a airport. Bought myself a set of walkie-talkies. The kind you see in Eastern Mountain, or any sporting goods store. Get the ones with chooseable channels. Set the radios to compatable channels and ( as Jackie Gleason used to say...AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY WE GO!) She goes herway and I go mine and keep in touch.. Great when she wants to shop in towns we travel to, she shops and I can hit a pub and watch any football games that are on.:ernae:

Best was once when we were in a town in New Mexico with some friends. The other husband and I did not want to aimlessly wander the od town stores and decided to find a Cantina. Well we did, and had to then find the wives to tell them where we were losing valuable magarita time from the Happy Hour. While we were waiting for the ladies to finish shopping, there was a verrrrrrrrrry old gentleman sitting next to us, at the bar, with a map of the area with all the sites of interest marked on it spread out on the bar. He had a radio, and when his wife would call him he would ask where she was and then he would look at the map. He then picked a site at the OTHER end of the map and said that was where he was! THE MAN WAS A GENIUS!!!! We bought him several rounds and never forgot it. That was planning and execution!

Fibber, great story! Lifejogger, I wish there was a Barnes and Nobles closeby. I like those stores.

We do most of our shopping in Murphy, NC. Wal-Mart is the only "game" in town there, unfortunately. Occasionally we drive to Ellijay, GA, (where we used to live), but it's too darn congested now.

I just carry a hockey stick with me. People get out of your way really fast.
