I've got a couple of cloth belts of ammo for a British .303 machine gun that dates from 1945. The stuff works very well in my 1908 vintage .303 British SMLE army rifle.
 
Are you sure they are spent? looks like the bullet is still in there and the charge looks intact on those?

For those interested in service rifles and ammunition as well as competitive shooting events, the US Government's Civilian Marksmanship Program is a great place to start. While they no longer offer the bargains they once did, they are still in the business of training shooters for the national defense.

One of my duties with the military is weapons training and I often notice that the best shots on the rifle and pistol range all received initial training from the CMP. Older members might recognize the organization's older name, the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM).
