Getting the most out of my i7-950 processor

Seeing as how I just took a 10 year step forward in computer technology, I am clueless about how to get the most out of my new system. Multi-core....don't have a clue as to how to utilize it to the fullest. Currently, when I fire up my sim, I simply double click on the shortcut icon and let the system do its thing. Do I need to tell the system to run Win 7 on one core, FS9 on another, FSX on another...or does Win 7 automatically use different cores for running programs on?

Any tips you guys can provide that will help me get the most out of my system will be greatly appreciated.

If you are running FSX with SP1, you are using all available cores, of course you should use SP2 or Acceleration to get the best out of FSX. FS9 cannot use four cores. The best boost comes from overclocking your CPU.

I suggest reading Nick N's guides for the use of Affinity Mask and it's setting within FSX: http://www.simforums.com/forums/topic29041.html

I have FSX updated to SP2. Have not done any tweaks to the sim yet.

FS9...well, I have it locked at 50FPS and it looks and runs like a brand new sim. I had it locked at 75FPS....but I figured 50FPS was twice what I was used to, would ensure that I got no stutters. I can't believe the difference in how the sim LOOKS with the new system...the details are so much sharper and crisper.

Just remember that if you ever decide to join us on the MP servers (and we would love to see you on there) you must lock your frames to 25 FPS (in FS9 only) otherwise you will prevent other players from getting into the server and cause issues for those already on the server.

This is due to a bug in FS9 where it sends out data to all players in a MP session at the same rate as the display setting. So, if you set your FPS to 75 you are sending your position, speed and direction data out to everyone else on the server 75 times a second! Obviously that is just way too much data and very quickly bogs down the system. When using the FS Host Client software in FSX the same data is sent just 4 times per second.
