greatest 3 albums ever!!??

Kinda Blue....Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderly and I am sorry, I can't remember the Bassist and Drummer. Yeowzers!!! really good stuff!

Kind of Blue
Paul Chambers: Bass
Jimmy Cobb: Drums

If you're only going to have one Miles Davis album, Kind of Blue is the one to have. I could never think of a 'Three Greatest', or even a 'Three Favorite' albums. The Rolling Stone magazine 100 Greatest issue always irritates me. One thing I do have to say. All you guys going to these loud (overamplified, in my opinion) metal shows: WEAR EAR FILTERS. I had buzzing in my right ear for years from just standing next to a 50 watt amp, and that ear is still VERY sensitive to noise. I can't make you do it, but you've been told...

PS TeaSea, when do you see 'modern' jazz beginning? I'm not trying to start an argument. Honest.

WOW, no mention yet of Van Halen's first album (I'm partial to 1984 and Diver Down), #2 AC/DC- If you want blood, you got it. #3 Pink Floyd- Animals (the wall rocks as well)

Moody Blues - In Search of the Lost Chord
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced
Cream (Eric Clapton) - Wheels of Fire

Hi all,
I love all kinds of music. My collection has something for every one and what I listen to depends on how I feel at the time.
My CD collection has just gone above 1000 with The Rainbow Collection(Ritchie Blackmore) and the Best of Squeeze.
I can highly recommend anything by Blackmores Night.

Tom Petty is pretty high on my list, but I think my #2 would be The Beatles Abbey Road behind the earlier mentioned Dark Side Of The Moon. Listen to a lot of ZZ Top as well, especially the earlier stuff they did.

Then there's Bluegrass, but we'll talk about that some other time.

My favorites:

Takin' It To The Streets - Doobie Brothers

Chicago Transit Authority - Chicago's first LP

Sittin' In - Loggins and Messina

NC

Deep Purple "Machine Head"

The Eagles "Hotel California"

The Who "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy"

Runners Up:

John Lee Hooker "The Very Best Of" (Terraplane Blues with Roy Rogers is great - yes Dale Evans' Roy Rogers was a blues player, who knew.)

Creedence Clearwater Revival "Cosmos Factory"

Rory Gallagher "BBC Sessions"

I'm not sure where to start... Early Van Halen, 1984, 5150, Balance... Beatles Let It Be Naked, Allman Brothers, Aerosmith Pump, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin just about any album... David Lee Roth Eat 'Em 'N Smile, Tom Petty Into The Great Wide Open. Bruce Springsteen Darkness On The Edge of Town. (Or Hammersmith Odeon Live) I dunno... 3 is tough.

Well, seeing as Radiohead is the greatest band in the world, I'll rate my top three albums by them.

  1. "Kid A" (an experimental album done right)
  2. "Amnesiac" (along the same lines as Kid A [would be first, but Kid A was the trendsetter])
  3. 4-way tie between "OK Computer", "The Bends", "Hail to the Thief", and "In Rainbows" ( I knew I couldn't do it LOL)
Notable runner up albums are

  • Muse-"Absolution"
  • Coldplay-"Rush of Blood to the Head" & "X and Y"
  • mewithoutYou- Every album by them ever (Author's note, this band is the most lyrically talented and profound musical group ever formed...recommended listen!)

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Can't believe that no one has any Tom Petty on their list.

I saw Tom with Steve Winwood opening this past summer. One of the best shows I've ever attended. Winwood opened with a 65 minute set, then Tom and the Heartbreakers played about an hour at which point Winwood joined them for 3 songs(Mr. Fantasy, Gimme Some Lovin, and Can't Find My Way Home:woot:). After that Tom and and the boys played for another hour. One of his encore songs was Van Morrison's Mystic Eyes which was INCREDIBLE. Worth every penny for the ticket, if you have the chance, see this band live.

Regards, Rob
