Some times i wonder Why They even Have Radios in Airplanes if the Navy Pilots who Buzz and Around Civilian Airports Like they do!

Just Got Buzzed By a C-2 at 54cl the Pilot was inside the pattern Not Talking

So Stupid


he did More then four passes Over head lower each Time Last One was over my Place

i found out what was going on They were Doing a Fly Over for a Navy GUy who was Geting out of the Navy So they Flew over the Guys ranch to show his son The airplane Thats pretty Cool I just Talked to the Pilot in command of the plane

Just curious Cirrus on your discontent about the aircraft not coming over on the radio. Presumeably there is no tower at 54cl, if he was flying the pattern (not sure if that was what you meant) then why the need for the radio call?
 
When I go flying w/ my old man at a fairly busy little grass strip South of here, about 90% of the pilots don't even fly with a radio!!
 
I was lucky enough to get one cat shot in my USN career, and it was on a C-2, off the Saratoga. MOST awesome sensation!!

Got lucky early in my career to get off a boat det ahead of schedule via COD. Launched and the nose gear would not retract, so flew a Vle all the way back to NS Mayport. Thought that was going to be the last time for this rotorhead, until I was able to get a S-3 ride on/off the boat.
 
Nowadays with e-mail and global cell phone service I don't know how much deployed sailors care about snail mail anymore, but back in the day the C-2's were popular aircraft whenever they trapped aboard a carrier because they usually had mail onboard. Especially during the holiday season when you were expecting all those goodies from home! I had forgotten how fat they were until I saw the pics here. They fly out of NAS Norfolk all the time but I live close to Norfolk International so I don't see them much in my neighborhood.
 
I am actually surprised that no one has commented on the use of a taxpayer purchased aircraft, being flown by taxpayer paid pilots, using taxpayer purchased fuel...to give a retiring Navy member's son a personal air show. If I were the squadron commander, I would mark it down as a training flight and give the young'un one heck of a show...and that's probably how it went down.

Yeah, they have hours allotted to them to fly each month, so whatever they do is all good. They fly around, shoot approaches, touch n goes, cross country navigation, etc :)

I got a cat and a trap in one during my 72-73 Med cruise on the Forrestal!
It was a neat sensation!

I got a cat shot in a C-1 Trader once as part of a Navy Relief raffle win. Only time I ever won anything.
 
I never had the opportunity to launch from or trap aboard a CV. My only carrier landing was aboard USS Saratoga at anchorage on a CH-46 helo after a 5-minute hop from Souda Bay, Crete.

The flying unit at my base (KC-135's) used to have "training" missions to Utah at the start of the skiing season and then to Hawaii in the dead of winter. Space A slots were usually full. My team got on one of the 135s for a ride home after a job in Puerto Rico. Was surprised to see a dad and his two sons on the same flight. The squadron commander (Brigadier General) was in the left seat for the flight. He greased the landing so good I hadn't realized we had touch down. :salute:
