Are all HDMI cables the same? What I mean is the $20 Dynex cables as good as the $50 Rocketfish cables? I"m in the process of setting up my Home Theater system. Got a Samsung Blu-ray disc player, and Bose speakers. I'm holding out for that Samsung 55" LED tv. I almost have the boss convinced that's a worth while investment...wish me luck!

I read an article awhile back that effectively said there's no difference. They did testing of signal loss and picture/sound quality and couldn't tall any perceptible differences between the cheap HDMI cables and the really expensive ones.

Edit: I ended up buying a basic HDMI cable from Radio Shack at a much lower price than I could find at Best Buy. Works great running from my upconvert DVD to my 37" LG HDTV.

The only differences you might notice are the quality of the plugs which can be a factor if you are setting up and tearing down a lot, and over longer distances( 100 ft.?) inferior cables can suffer suffer line loss and interference problems.
For your average home theater setup it is not worth the extra $$ for high end cables.

I learned too late that digital does not have the same requirement as analogue - the most pathetic little DVI cable will perform the same as the gold-plated one.
(Initially, but the connectors will corrode with time. Get a new one, then )
I'd stick with the monster cable for the speakers though.

Blu-ray players are great as they generally conform to the same standard as the TV's.
You can have a single remote for the lot!

And, don't forget, Flight Simulator runs fine on 1080p screens!

It is difficult/impossible to tell the difference between HDMI and component, let alone a cheap and expensive HDMI...

We recently got a new "home theater" too. Got a 46 inch samsung LCD, a samsung blu-ray player (which my dad accidentally called a blue disk rayer... lmao), and a Bose sound system. The Packer game looks stunning.

That it does.....I run FS regularly on both of these....

...but still prefer my Dell 30" monitor


Regarding the HDMI cables....no need for gold plated expensive top of the line cables.

I run Component cables from the DVD and HD Cable DVR to our 42 inch Plasma TV. Image quality is superb...eventhough or DVD player is not HD.

I wish I could use my Plasma with my PC...but Plasma and PCs don't mix and my TV does not have a PC input.

We've got a 42" wall mount LCD TV but none of the comps are hooked up to it. I did use some expensive gold plated component cables with it as all our peripheral stuff is analog and I already had the cables.

42" Sony.
I find my 'real" computer setup with 24" and 19" Dell monitors is somehow much more immersive for flightsim.
The TV computer is a legacy P4 box that acts as a home network server and websurfer, really.
