Here's a weird one!

I decided to do a 2nd FS2004 install. I must have done this many times before, over the years. I'm using Windows 11 24H2.
I've don the usual install on a 2nd drive, did the update & patch, & obviously renamed the exe (to FS9D.exe) to build a fs9.cfg that will not affect my original install.
The first time I ran it, all worked. I loaded a bunch of sceneries & aircraft, & ran it.
It started with the usual update of the library, then a black screen for a few seconds, then it 'vanished'. (crashed).

I look at Window's Event Viewer & I get this..

After all that, I did a 3rd clean install with no addons at all & get the same crash.

The faulting module is mshtml.dll
Mshtml.dll is a dynamic link library (DLL) file that contains instructions for the Microsoft Windows browser engine, Trident.

My original install still works perfectly.
I even tried to copy the first install's fs9.exe as well as the working fs9.cfg into the 2nd sim. still nothing.

Any ideas as to what my next step should be?

Pete, I'll give that a try. The 2nd install did work, before I added scenery & planes, then it stopped. As did a completely fresh clean install.
My original sim still works perfectly.

I had a quick look at VS.. Could only find VS Code.
Is there any other way to try sort things?

I'm winning, My 1st install is in a folder called D:\Flight SimulatorSW with an FS9.exe - always worked!

I've installed the 2nd sim on my C:\ drive in a folder called Flight Simulator 9 with an FS9.exe - It worked

Then I copied the whole directory to my D:\Flight Simulator 9 with an FS9.exe - It worked

So now my multiple FS2004's all work, all using FS9.exe, which means that all the sims are using the same FS9.cfg!

It doesn't seem to be problematic at all. Here's hoping!! :wiggle: :sheep:

Back when I first installed FS9, I just dragged it in bulk from Program Files to the main C: root drive. :eagerness:
It still hasn't exploded. :dread:

Not wanting to hex your success, but Win10 will go into "Nanny Mode" at times and just correct all that work you just did. :pop4:
I shiver to think what Win11 might pull. Try installing some different aircraft to the new install and see what happens.

Now I remember, that is down to win10 (and on) copyright protection, from Microsoft you have multiple installs but only the licence for one. Renaming the exe is what caused it

I've been renaming exe's for years, in Windows 10 & 11. I've had renamed exe's for gw.exe, fs9sw.exe, fs9pw.exe, & each time they have built a separate .cfg.

So I have no idea as to why now, Windows 11 only allows a single fs9.exe, after a 'normal' install that the Register recognizes, and a 'copy & paste' which does not go into the registry, as I have done many times before.

Oh well. That's Windows! I''ll just have to work around it.

So, I have 3 working installs of FS2004..
C:\ My older install, in Flightsimpw folder
D:\ Flight Simulator 9 folder (installed from an ISO)
& C:\ Flight Simulator 9 folder (This copied from D:\)

All 3 are using FS9.exe's and therefore I only have a single FS9.cfg file!
All 3 installs are working well, no issues after quite a few added aircraft & scenery.
Oh well, as long as it all works! :sheep:
