How to properly uninstall FSX?

nio

Charter Member
Could some kind soul tell me the best and most effective way to do this or give me some pointers, please?

I should swiftly say that I really enjoy this sim and wish to reinstall.I am running SP2.

I have been experiencing some rather irritating CTDs mid flight in a variety of aircraft and flights, which are followed by the "encountered an error do you wish to send a report to MS" screen.

I appreciate that I could try and troubleshoot by sequentially removing aircraft scenery etc. but I think this will be like looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack" and, frankly, I do not have the time (r/l overload) to spend on such an exercise.

Thank you very much in anticipation.

A CTD is usually a driver error or a Hardware failure or heat related..Till you get to the bottom of it reinstalling may not do nothing for you...For the best help what are your temps during flight?

What are the CTD messages that follow?

To uninstall FSX do it from the Add / Remove programs...
Then run CCleaner http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Then reboot your computor and thats it...

If you want to get picky go thru your computer tree and remove all traces, but if its going back on no real point in that...

Thank you very much for your suggestions and pointers, Harleyman.

I have not checked the running temperatures during flight but will check and report back.

I will screenshot the error messages when they next come up and let you know

I have run Nvidia stability tests which come up fine. I have also run 3Dbenchmark tests and they come up fine also.

As you may have seen I am running sli enabled.I am assuming this is not likely to be a problem?

SLI Enabled can / may be a problem..we'll see...

Did this just start happening after an Nvidia driver update??

If so it can be SLI related...We will find out though...

Lets just check those few things before you reinstall....:jump:

I have dual nvidia GTX 8800's, and I find that FSX performs much better with the SLI disabled. Try it with the SLI disabled and see what you get. It may or may not help with the CTD's, but I believe you will see a marked performance increase.

There is a way to minimize CTD's, at least it works for me. Make a simple flight plan (FP) from the airport you want to fly from, and store it. Then, open the FP, and it will ask you if you want to reposition your plane to that airport. The program will repo you there, and then you can switch planes if you want.

The FP can be IFR or VFR, and long or short, it doesn't matter. You can make and store as many FP's as you want. I realize it's not as simple as manually changing the airport you want to fly from, but the time saved comes from not having the CTD's.

Thank you all for the stellar responses.

I will work through all of your very helpful suggestions and report back.

Harleyman. That is a yes to recent driver update.

Nio...If you were not having issues before the Driver update, then I would roll back to that last good driver.....

Not all new driver releases will work for everyone... Expecially with SLI Enabled......

My general rule now is (I used to install the new driver the day it was out,but as FSX is so picky, I learned to leave well enough alone)

If your driver is performing well, let it be ...The new one just might not work for FSX so well......

Most driver releases actually do not give much frame benefits for FSx..Some DO get gains, but more og us DO NOT...LOL

Harleyman

I will add this to my list.

Based upon your remarks concerning running temperatures, I am also going to have a look inside my pc .I have not done so since I upped the Ram shortly after I bought it last year.:redf:

I hope I am not going to find that it is a ball of dirt and dust in there.

I will report back whatever I find and thanks again.

Use this to see your general temps Nio...

Then fly in windowed mode with it open and see your temps that way too...

That will give you a great clue as to whats going on temp wise....

http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Get the correct version for 32 or 64 bit.....

I had problems with the latest drivers even after completly deleting / reinstalling so I would try that first. also do a defrag of your disk . Has the new drivers made any difference to OFF or IL2 / FS9. also have you got physx enabled with the new drivers just a thought.
I did not ctd but froze and all I could do was reboot

Harleyman

This is the result of the CPUID test while running a flight.

I have made no changes yet nor have I "opened the box".

How does it look to you?
BTW the weird thing is that my monitor is an Acer (see my rig specs in my sig) not a Samsung.

You have very acceptable temps...the samsungs appear to be Hard Drives, and you must have two? or else its reporting two..

Your CPU at 54 is great

Your SLI cards @ 71 -77 are good too

Your HDDs are excellent...

I say you have little to no dust bunnies in there to worry about now....

So its not heat related......

Well thats good to know.Thanks.

Yes I have two 500GB hard drives. So they are Samsungs.I did not know that.

Well, I must sleep now, but I will go through the other suggestions once the weekend arrives.

Hi Harleyman

Well I spent part of the weekend running through the list of suggestions.

I did not get a CTD though occasionally I would have a missionm freeze and look like locking up ,only to recover

Sli enabled or disabled made no appreciable difference.

I have done all the NickN tweaks.

I am now going to go reduce all sliders and gently them work up.

Thanks again for all your help.

Best

nio

:wavey:

That Freeze you describe is not from sliders...

Leave them where they are if thats your only problem I would think...

When it freezes do you see any graphic weirdness going on in the Sim?

This still may be a driver SLI issue...
