HUD Heads Up Display

highpockets

SOH-CM-2025
Where do I find this. It shows up in the upper right of the screen. There are two types, I think. It appears by pressing F3.

Yo HP and All;
Here is a list of all Keyboard Commands for CFS2 / CFS1 - FS
Depends upon which type commands (CFS2 or CFS1/FS) you chose when installing CFS2
- print them and have them ready

Have fun & go nutz!

I don't think highpockets is asking about commands. I think he means the HUD gauge. If that is what he means, there are two versions that replaced the stock version of the HUD.
Here is the stock version hud stock.jpg

This is the relacement version 1 hud.jpg

This is the replacement version 2 hud 1.jpg

Anyway, both of these versions are 25+ years old and after all this time I have no idea who made them, nor can I find them posted anywhere anymore.

For preservation, I have loaded the two versions into the Resources library for any who want them

Is there some specific reason why none of these new HUD files have an individual file specific "discussion" thread in which users can leave comments ? In particular, I wanted to leave a comment for the "Props CFS2 HUD" file because the reademe.txt contains several errors - especially in the identification of which file should be replaced by the new HUD.gau file, either CFSHUD.gau or CFS2HUD.gau or even both.

OK, I have a serious problem with all of these HUD releases except for "version 3", in that the other three files contain little more than a gauge called HUD.gau. However, a default CFS2 installation only contains CFSHUD.gau and CFS2HUD.gau. Moreover, the default_panels,cfg file does not reference any gauges in the file HUD.gau - only in CFSHUD.gau and CFS2HUD.gau.

So, for these three HUD files to work, they need to be inserted into a plane that has a panel.cfg which does mention gauges from HUD.gau.

My problem is that none of these three files says anything about this situation. Now, it is just possible that my understanding of these things is wrong, but I think that there should be something in the readme.txt files to explain more than just "put the HUD.gau file in the CFS2 'GAUGES' folder", particularly if you want newer users to be able to use these HUD files correctly . . .

That is a very valid point. After 25 years I only had the HUD gauges, not the old complete zip files, so I had completely forgotten about the cfg file.

Both version 1 and version 2 downloads have been updated to include everything from the original zip files including the cfg file.

Thanks for heads up, no pun intended. :culpability:

Well, I am sorry to say that the latest uploads of "version 1" and "version 2" are no better than the original uploads. The readme files claim that a CFG file is included but it is not, and once more claim that the GAU files are from a default installation when they are not. There really is no point in having these files here since there are no instructions on how to set up the included files so that they will work . . .

On the other hand, the "version 3" file DOES contain the CFG file, which DOES contain references to the included GAU files. Sadly, I cannot confirm whether this updated file does work as expected, since I do not have a working flyable copy of CFS2. But it seems to me that the name, version 3, should tell us that the earlier files need to be replaced by this newer version . . .

Captain Kurt submitted a new resource:

HUD version 1 - HUD version 1

This gauge is 25+ years old and I have no idea who put it together so long ago. Nor can I find it posted anywhere any longer so I am adding it to the SOH library for preservation.

Installation:

Put the HUD.gau in your CFS2/GAUGES folder.
Put the five CFS2xELE gauges in your CFS2/GAUGES folder.

Put the default_panel.cfg file in the main CFS2 folder replacing the stock cfg file.

No good deed goes unpunished. OK Rohan noted .. upload file error, wrong folder used. The original upload files have been deleted and replaced to avoid more confusion. The installation instructions are simple and correct. There are no files that need replaced except the original default_panel.cfg.

And Rohan, while your observations are correct and appreciated so as to get the downloads right, your tone could, and should, have been helpful rather than criticising. Anyone who prepares and uploads a contribution is making a personal effort. I note you have made zero uploads so you may not understand. That person's effort does not warrant criticism which could be taken as personal. As it says on our home page " Let Being Helpful Be More Important Than Being Right! "

Please continue to make note of needed corrections, but please be more considerate about it.

I'm confused. I find no panel.cfg file. I have version 2 already installed in one of my theater installs. I will see if I can figure it out. I may have it in my files somewhere.
