Ie8 ???

Anyone with XP using it?

MS Updater keeps trying to get me to install it. You Tube says IE6 won't be supported by them much longer. And I won't use IE7... had too may problems with it so I went back to IE 6 a long time ago.

And if I do install it, should Favorites be ok or not? Or save them all first b4 installing IE8? They were ok after installing IE7 and even going back to IE6.... I didn't lose them.

GT,

I installed IE8 and did not lose any of my Favorites, however, I hated everything about IE8. It kept crashing, everything got bogged down, so I went back to IE7 and I've had no problems ever since.

Hope this helps!

All of your favorites will be OK but...

If you have any links in what was the default "links" folder in your favorites bewarned to move them to another folder. When you install IE8 it takes that folder and places all links in it in a new folder called "Favorites bar". The function of the favorites bar is to add a button for your most used favorites and have it right there in front of you. This works well as in all of my IE8 installs (W-7 and XP) the sim-outhouse is the only short cut in that folder. It keeps it right there where I want it all the time.

The problem is if you have many short cuts in that "links" folder it will place all those short cuts as buttons on your browser which can over burden the page. It will still run just way too busy with all of the buttons.

I had no problems as C9Gal had. My suggestion is to try it and go to IE7 as a fall back if it does not work. You might find your problem with IE7 has been resolved with an update.

I'm runnin IE8 and at this time ... problem free ... :) There are some minor things that get under my skin though, like when I go to shut the puter down and IE8 hasn't been closed properly first, on the next boot up and opening of IE8 it wants to know if I want to go back to the page I was on at shutdown or go to my home page.

Other than that ... pretty good here. All my Favs are aokay all else works just groovy.

I've been thinking about installing it on my machine too. But before I do, I'm going to burn a fresh ghost image just in case.

I tried IE8 and there are apparently enhanced security measures in it which may have slowed my computer. Not sure since I accepted all the high priority updates microsoft recommended on that black Tuesday. I went back to IE7 but my poor 'pooter hasn't been the same since...nor has FSX.
Grrrr :isadizzy:

Have been running IE8 on XP SP3 now for about a month. No problems, I did back up my favorites just to be sure, but did not need to do it.:running:

Thanks all for the input. I don't have SP3 yet, so mayabe I should get that installed first....... maybe? Then try IE8. Seeing IE7 has been updated I could fall back to that if need be. But I doesn't want to have to do that.

If it ain't one thing or the other.... this computer stuff will get ya in the end. And when ya get used to one thing they go and want you to change to sumthing else that ends up scrod. LOL

At your peril, GT!
I have a box that fell over on installing SP3.
Another that went ()^*%$#
And one that came with an OEM XP SP3 and works well.
On that one, I updated to IE8 and got a snail instead of a computer.
I tried rolling it back - NO DICE - no browser!
I loaded Chrome in desperation, and am now a Google :kilroy: Captive.

I've been running IE8 since they released it and have to say it has been completely trouble free. Of course there will always be features we like or don't like, but so far so good. I run it on XP SP3.

I just installed E8 yesterday and no problems so far. SP3 crashed my computer hard. Wouldn't even boot to Windows. Luckily I had another computer to find out how to fix it. I was in a panic because I have FS on the same drive and shuttered at the thought of reloading it. :isadizzy: I am going to stick with SP2 until Windows 7 comes out.

I have IE8 on XP SP3. I've noticed that my DSL keeps losing connection, or running very slow, even tho I have 15MB connection, which I never had trouble with before. I've also found one website that my wife uses that she can no longer get into her account on. It keeps saying we have to enable cookies. We've used the site for over a year, and no problems till the upgrade. Other than those, no problems. We did have some problems with the final RC, but went back to IE7 till the final came out. Then the darn thing updated automatically in the middle of the night, except for the final acceptance requests. :kilroy: (I didn't think it was supposed to be able to do that, but mine did.)

I too loaded IE8 when it was first released. I run XP Pro SP3 on all 3 of my PC's & immediately suffered system wide slow-down on all my machines.

Reverting back to IE7 cured this completely. But I use Firefox as my main browser .... IE7 is just for Windows updated.

Truth be told; Firefox is so much faster than IE8, I can't understand why anyone still uses IE anything. Firefox is now the most popular browser in the world with 46+% of the market.

I found Firefox to be really slow on my other computer so I removed it. I actually see an increase speed in page loading with IE8 (so far).

I did it.. IE8 is installed. IE seems to run faster... so far. The only things I don't like is Favorites won't stay showing like it did with IE6, and I miss that. Plus I don't like the Suggested Sites bar. No need for that IMHO.... I know what I want to visit and don't need to be reminded of where I've been.

The suggested sites button is in that "Favorites bar" folder in the favorites I was talking about. Just delete it and Bam gone no more crap. Make sure to turn off suggested sites if you turned it on. You can find that under tools.

Take the favorites you use the most and copy and paste them into the "favorites bar" folder and those will show up as buttons like the suggested sites button.

Some of the slowness noted above in FF was due to Java issues that seem to have all been resolved in FF 3.5 and/or FF having problems with pages that were using code written for non-compliant IE6/7 pages.

On the other hand, Firefox has, for some time, had the capability for better crash recovery (from forced closing, for example). While sometimes it's annoying, it can also be a help when you have multiple tabs open and something crashes or hangs from bad page/Java code. It's not perfect but I have to respect a browser written with some humour (see pic)

I loaded IE8 about a month and a half ago on my Vista computer, no problems I can attribute to it, and some sites load much faster. Checked Windows Update just now and there are three important and one recommended updates for Vista today. Guess I'll load the importants, not sure about the junk e-mail filter.
