Last Flight of a 727 - and a short field

FedEx has donated a B727 to the University of Alaska- Anchorage for use at their A&E school.
To deliver it they had to squeeze it into Merrill Field -Rwy 25 is 4000 Ft.

Well, maybe not a squeeze.. from the video you can see it was pretty-well stopped in about 2600 ft :applause:

If the plane was small enough for the taxiways, they could have pulled off at foxtrot. Because I work at the university, I was able to watch from the ramp near where the plane is now parked. The worst part is when I flew the pattern after they reopened the airport, I couldn't stop in less space.

It was a lot of fun watching the go arounds that close.
 
Kind of sad to see the 727 come to the end of its life. In the 70s to the mid 80s, odds were you'd be on a 727 if you were flying in the States. One time while waiting for a connection out of the old Stapleton International in Denver, I counted something like 13 727s in a line all queued up for take off with no other types in sight.
