Milviz DHC-3 (radial) Otter - Engine Dies, Oil Light On

No matter how closely I try to follow the manual and FS experience, I cannot stop the MV Otter engine from dying following start up. Run her up to 1000 -1200 RPM and the generator light goes off as it should but the Oil Light stays on and the engine dies after a minute or so of start up. Tried starting with mixture on cut and then gradually making richer (this was the method needed to start the MV Corsair which also died on start up with full rich mix btw).
At a loss what setting I should tweak. Had an error message on install like "PreP3D not found on system - XML file can't be loaded" or something like this. Did a reinstall and also installed to a folder outside P3D4 to see if anything missing but no discrepancies. Don't see any relevant settings to play with in MVAMS either.
Any ideas anyone?
