*MSFS 2020 Tools

Can any of you explain how to use the dang thing? I get two executable icons, neither say MSFS Layout Generator.exe, one has MSFS Layout Generator..sin and the pother MSFS Layout Generator.csproj. What opens them? I tried to follow the Read me, but the fact I cannot find a MSFS Layout Generator.exe that is mentioned in the READ ME just does not exist! I aready have three repaints, but just cannot figure this JSON crap out.

Hi,
1. Unzip the Layout creator tool into a folder that you can easily find again. Not sure if it does work on the desktop.
2. In the aircraft folder where your new repaint is going to be placed you should already have a Layout.json file.
3. Make or copy in the texture folder for the new skin with all the files specific to that repaint in it.
3. Place the two folders side by side so that you can drag the Layout.json file over the creator tool and let go of the mouse button.
4. A little CMD-pop up window appears for a few seconds and if all is well the Layout.json file will have a new time stamp and include the info for your new repaint.
5. Add the [fltsim] info manually or copy paste into the aircraft.cfg file and edit the number as you know it from FS9 or FSX.

Hope this helps.

More than you know Sunny. I shall do exactly that. For some reason Miocrosoft Video Studio reads the layout.json file. I edit all aircraft.cfg in Note++. I'm learning.....slowly. Thanks for the info.

Maybe place this litlle gem here as well that @Bomber_12th shared with me, along with his explanation who to use it:

It's very easy to replace an existing soundset with one from another MSFS aircraft, or even an FS9/FSX/P3D soundset. You just have to remember that you have to recompile a new .JSON file so that the new sound files will be found when you load the aircraft.

I have attached the very easy-to-use "Auto JSON" executable I use (that I can't seem to find anywhere online anymore). Once you place the new sounds & sound.cfg file into the sound folder of the MSFS aircraft of your choosing, open the Auto JSON executable and click on the directory to navigate to your community folder and select the aircraft's main folder (the folder that contains the .JSON file). Once selected, it will automatically generate a new .JSON file and all you have to do is click save as and you're good to go.

Sure did the trick for me on the aircraft I tried it with....though that one had no locked files.

We have a lot of talented developer souls here and perhaps one could nudge me in the right direction. I am again after a long hiatus doing Flight Dynamics but am lacking the tools I had in FS9, FSX and P3D to accurately measure aircraft performance and especially the great instant replay that FSX had. Looking for tools that measure things such as thrust, HP, attitude and about every other flight parameter in real time.

Cheers: Tom

Have you looked at this? https://docs.flightsimulator.com/ht...Flight_Model/Basic_Aerodynamics.htm?agt=index

Anyone using the MSFS app: Sky4Sim NG?
There are some YouTube reviews.
Its a Flight Management Tool, [free & Premium editions]
I have not been able to get on their Discord so I am trying to find out if you can run it on an Android Tablet, or on a PC using a 2nd screen?
The material I have seen so far appears to run it on an iPad & I am not sure if that is the only way it can be used.
Thanks

I purchased and used Sky4Sim. It's a great app, lots of capability, but it is M$FS2020 in game app "only" (check out FAQ on sky4sim.com site). I think the view on an Ipad is the look of it on your computer screen.

I haven't used it too much recently as only doing short VFR flights. I use //42 Flow and pop into and out of stuff quickly like the built-in map. I find Sky4Sim is one of those add-ons you want to leave loaded during your flight, but you could use //42 Flow to look and go.

[Edit: Looks like DennyA has a better answer than I can come up with.]

Yes, you can access Sky4Sim in a browser on a tablet that's on the same network as your PC. Just use the Sky4Sim interface to launch it on a browser on your PC, and take note of the port number in the address of the window it opens. For instance, on my PC, it opens 127.0.0.1:18086.

Then figure out your IPV4 address of your PC (open a Command window and type IPconfig), and on your tablet, in the web address, enter the PC's address with the port number you saw on your PC. For example, if your PC is 192.168.1.20, then you'd enter http://192.168.1.20:18086 and it'll open Sky4Sim in the browser on the tablet. (Then bookmark that page!)

Also, there are many planes that let you integrate Sky4Sim in the cockpit.

It's really nice if you ever use NeoFly. There's a free version, so you can try it investing nothing but time. Paid version is well worth the low price, though.

Denny - Your recipe works...some of the Sky4Sim functions work on a tablet. Several things I tried, however, gave me an alert that they would only work on the MSFS in game menu. For example, importing your MSFS flight plan into the moving map won't work on the tablet. I couldn't get a "real" moving map on the tablet either (got a map, got a moving aircraft symbol, but the map wouldn't move without me moving it). Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.

Oh, yeah, I usually just input my flight plan manually on the tablet. The stuff I use it for -- mostly NeoFly tracking, airport info, and as a map in GPS-less planes -- works fine with the browser version.

Moving map works fine for me, though. When I was testing it on my iPad mini while writing the response earlier today, I used the feature. You do have to click the fourth icon down on the left (the map pin with the plane in the center) and it should follow your plane.

I am a bit confused about how many versions of Sky4Sim there are.
I want the one that resides on a PC & can be activated by an icon on the MSFS top of screen bar.
I have come across Sky4Sim NG & Sky4Sim Pad, are they the same thing?

T43 - Sky4Sim is a virtual Ipad available in several flavors (all are Sky4Sim NG) ... free and premium. 95% of the functionality is available for free (as stated on the Sky4Sim website. ( Sky4Sim.com )

[Edit - In the past there was a version that was not NG, but NG has replaced it. All information available on the product website.]

Well, I plumped for the Premium Edition as I wanted the elevation data facility, now, having installed & set it up, it appears that to get that you need to be using Bing Map Enhancement, which I currently don't.
So, although I was given an API, because I don't use Bing maps the API won't "take".
Should have read the fine print.:(
Any way around this so I can have elevation data show up??

If your Community folder is encrypted, ( store-bought version) and you want to move one of your own folders out of there, but can't and get the message " your organization does not allow you to move files here..." If you feel like you've just lost your precious work, or just lost an airport you paid for, Compress to Archive ( Zip) the Community folder to your desktop, breath easier...now you can unzip your files to where you want them to be. Lesson learned, but I did lose a payware airport because I deleted it and was not able to recover it, had I known this I would've been able to save it.. The Community folder is like quicksand.

If you're logged into Windows with an admin account, you should have full control over the files. I've never had any issue.
