Funny Jeff Gordon line, when commenting of the debris on the nose of Kevin Harvick's car: "It looks like somebody knocked over a trash can and Harvick drove right through it!" That one had me "LOL"ing.

But this season, winning one race does not grant a team a ticket to the big dance. The 48 team needs to show consistency under this new system.

Yes, and isn't that interesting? NASCAR has been tweaking the rules for years, trying to make winning races more important, ever since Matt Kenseth won the championship with a huge points lead a few years back, without winning a race. Or did he win one? I forget. So here we are now, and NASCAR is back to making things other than winning the race important to the championship. But we're not exactly back to "points racing" because those "other than winning the race" points are awarded for winning "stages". Or, as Jimmie Johnson put it "stage racing doesn't reward patience." Very interesting...

Jimmie definitely does not like this new format, but Jimmie did exceptionally well with the Chase format, especially when the rule was if you win one race, you are in the Chase. Now, he has to earn point just to get into the chase.

Odd system where I come from.
The teams race on Saturday and get points, they race again on the Sunday for more points.
These are call 'Race 1' and 'Race 2' ....... which count toward the championship, said championship has been decided in the final race of the season for quite a few years.
:biggrin-new:

Kenseth won at Las Vegas, third event of the season. He scored more Top-10s than any other driver that year, and his "huge" points lead was only 90 points (a win was then awarded with 180 points).
