New carriers

dhasdell

SOH-CM-2023
From today's news it sounds as if the Royal Navy's new carriers will be "delayed" for two years. With no aircraft to fly from them, and no escorts to escort them, do we really believe we will ever see them?

It's to save money?!?!?!?! Is the fact they're likely to force another two years service out of the Ark, Invincible and Illustrious going to save anything in the long run?

I'm going to stop now, going on about the state of Britains Armed Forces will not fit in with the non-political aegis of the main body of this site.

It could be worse....

Yo Guys;

Cheer up lads; just be thankful that you HAVE A NAVY!!

The Naval branch of the Kanadian Armed Forces consists of 3 Zodiac's & a Bass-boat.

One of the Zodiac's has a busted outboard motor & all 4 boats share the same gas can.

Oh I almost forgot ..... we have 4 subs we bought of you Brits .... the "Unloader Class" I believe. They submerge REAL GOOD! ...... although surfacing them still seems quite difficult.

Truth be told: There is a huge shopping mall in Edmonton Alberta where they have a gigantic water tank and visitors can ride in one of 3 submersible submarines.

This place has more operational subs than our Navy :redf: :redf: :redf: :redf: :redf:

NO :bs: !!!

Ah Heck U.S. Coasties have the Kanadian Navy beat. Wanna borrow 1 of our cutters?? Thankfully the UK is still Blue water. We need the UK navy as a counter balance in sea projection of power. Although my Coastie partner served in the Canadian Coast Guard for 6 years and says the Canadian coast Guard puts the navy to shame.

MOD should have called 'em "Through Deck Battlecruisers", wouldn't be any problems then.:costumes:

regards Collin:ernae:

That's where the problem lies!

Aircraft Carriers are big expensive things, Battlecruisers/Cruisers aren't. I always wondered why the proper official designation for the current ships was Through Deck Cruisers.

Thanks for clearing that up Collin:costumes:

They were called through deck cruisers because carriers were out of the question politically. From the side-view-only plans helpfully presented to politicians the Invincible class looked like cruisers (the ramp which might have given the game away came later, remember) and so the Navy, forbidden carriers, got through deck cruisers.
